8 Really Great Book Deals for the First Part of August

This is our last weekend of the summer before school starts next year and I’m a little bit in denial.

I have quite a bit of time in the car today while I drive my daughter to a face painting gig, so I’m excited to get a little audiobook time in (and then some reading while she paints!).

Here are some book deals going on right that I don’t want you to miss (and my favorite summer workbooks are all on big sale right now – if you want to stock up for next summer or use them during the school year, this is a great time to snag them!):

The Four Tendencies: The Indispensable Personality Profiles That Reveal How to Make Your Life Better (and Other People’s Lives Better, Too) by Gretchen Rubin
You know how I love Gretchen Rubin and this book all about four types of personality is really fun and fascinating.

The Home Edit: A Guide to Organizing and Realizing Your House Goals by Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin
An organizing book might not be YOUR idea of a good time, but I loved every page of this one! It was laugh-out-loud funny, full of inspiration, and you bet I have organized about my entire house since reading it. Now I just need better handwriting so I can label everything. For under $2, this one is a steal of a reference book for a clean, clutter-free home!

the last love note book

The Last Love Note by Emma Grey
This one was the first book I finished in 2024 and it made it on to my top favorite books from 2024! This one was heartbreaking and hopeful and I was sucked in from page one about a woman losing her husband first mentally and then physically to early-onset dementia. (I read her new book too – Pictures of You – which I didn’t think was nearly as good).

the best Christmas pageant ever

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson
I read this classic Christmas read-aloud to my girls a few years ago and it was so fun to revisit. We all got a huge kick out of the Herdman siblings, dubbed “the worst kids in the history of the world” who show up at church because of the free snacks and somehow take over the whole Christmas pageant. This one is a nice short read, so if you’re looking for something that you can get through in a couple of days or a week, this is a good pick. (Plus, this one is a Libro.FM deal so you can use it to make a Yoto card!)

the selection series

The Selection by Kiera Cass
This dystopian romance stars America Singer who is selected as one of 35 girls competing for the hand of the prince in this Cinderella-meets-the-Bachelor young adult novel. I blew through the whole audio series after my third baby was born and loved this frothy series.

Uglies

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
Bart and I both loved this YA series that is about two decades old, (in fact, Tally’s blog name is because of this book – Bart was gunning to name her that for real, but I had to draw the line somewhere).

meet me in the margins book

Meet Me in the Margins by Melissa Ferguson
This is such a cute fun romance! An editor at Savannah’s dream publishing company is asking for the manuscript of a romance novel she has been secretly writing behind the scenes, while working at a different publishing company. She hides her manuscript in a hidden room, but later discovers someone has found it and started jotting very critical edits in the margins. This mystery editor is not only helping make her manuscript better, but could she be falling for him too?

The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year

The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year by Ally Carter
I could not stop talking about this holiday romance/mystery last winter! And the audiobook version? Too fun! It has two narrators, witty banter and it is pure delight from the first to the last page. I did a 30 second book review of it here – but just take my word for it…it is FANTASTIC!

the lake house

The Lake House by Kate Morton
Alice is a sixteen-year-old living at her family’s lush estate. Every year, they have a big party on midsummer’s eve, and this year, the family’s youngest child, a little toddler boy, disappears without a trace and is never found. Decades later, Alice has moved to London where she’s become a successful novelist, putting her past behind her. But when she crosses path with a young police detective, the past is going to come unburied. (Full review here)
