4 Books I’m Currently Reading (+ my team’s picks)
I had high hopes that I’d catch up on my reading goal this summer.
Are you totally shocked to hear that it has actually been the opposite?

This has not been the best summer of reading for me, and I’ve just had to let go of my numbers goals and just read when I can!
Here’s what I’m reading right now:
What You Are Looking For Is in the Library by Michiko Aoyama
I can’t even remember where I heard this recommended, but I put it on hold on Libby and I’ve been listening to this sweet story about various people in Tokyo who interact with a larger-than-life librarian who helps them with the different things they need. Not super fast paced but I’m enjoying it!
Diamond Fever!: A True Crime Story in the Wild West by Steve Sheinkin, illustrated by Jon Chad
This is my current bedside table book and I’m loving this middle grade story about a diamond crime during the Gold Rush that I’ve never heard about! I’ve loved Steve Sheinkin for years (his book Bomb! is one of my all-time faves) and this one is proving really engaging too! I especially love the inserts that are done as a graphic novel!
My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George
I read this book so many times as a child and then aloud to my girls probably 5 years ago or so. This summer, my two youngest girls are doing Junior Mountaineers (my affiliate code is EVERYDAYJUNIOR) and one of the badges is to read this book, so I’m reading it aloud to everyone (they don’t remember it at all!). It is a classic for a reason!
Love You More by Emily Giffin
I can’t resist a good Emily Giffin book and her newest one – about a woman who gets a call from her high school boyfriend just after she gets engaged – wasn’t one I was going to skip!

Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell
I’m not typically into books like this and honestly I still can’t decide if I’m into this one! But I’m powering through because I’ve heard amazing things about it. The story follows the life of Agnes, her husband and their three kids in the 1500s. Agnes has special gifts the town seeks after and is also very fearful of. I’m hoping it will soon take a total grip on me.

The Academy by Elin Hilderbrand and Shelby Cunningingham
I’d never read an Elin Hilderbrand book before, so this was a fun introduction – especially since she co-wrote it with her daughter, which really comes through in the modern teen references. It’s set at an elite boarding school and told from both the students’ and staff’s perspectives, it’s full of secrets, scandals, and nonstop drama that definitely gave me Gossip Girl vibes.

From Sand and Ash by Amy Harmon
I recently finished all the books I was currently reading and all my hold lines on Libby are about 12 weeks long. I went to see if anything piqued my interest kindle unlimited and I found this book! I read What the Wind Knows by the same author a couple years ago when Janssen did it for the Everyday Reading Book Club. I really liked the author’s style and it is obvious in her writing that she really does her research. This book is set during WWII in Italy and tells the story of Eva and Angelo, childhood friends turned sweethearts. Angelo chooses to enter the priesthood of the Catholic Church but helps hide Eva, a Jew in a local convent. I’m excited to see how their story ends!
