Tell Me What to Read: 2015 Fall Reading Picks

It is basically Christmas morning for me when I sort through all the recommendations you guys leave for Tell Me What to Read and then spend an hour or two reading reviews on Amazon and Goodreads.

Choosing only three is the hard part (but I have a huge list of all the recommendations pinned up by my desk so that I can get through more than just these three).

Anyway, here are my picks for October, November, and December. I hope you’ll read along with me!

  1. Yay! Can't wait to hear what you think of The Martian…it's probably my favourite book of the year! Those other two look intriguing too – especially the evil librarians!!

  2. I just finished The Martian this past Saturday and I was surprised by how much I liked it, it's absolutely fascinating! And I'm going to have to check out the Beverly Cleary one – we are big fans of her at our house!

  3. I was surprised how much I loved The Martian. Written very conversationally even when they're talking about really science-y things. Plus, knowing Matt Damon plays him in the movie, I read the whole thing in his voice.

  4. I heartily approve of both the Martian and Alcatraz! I haven't read the other one but LOVED Beverly Clearly growing up so I'll have to check that out. Can't wait to see what you think! I read The Royal We after seeing it in your summer's Tell Me What To Read round and I loved it so much I read it again just a few weeks after I first finished. 🙂

  5. I read both of Beverly Cleary's memoirs a few years ago and LOVED them. She's the best. She is also, I was delighted to learn, still alive and nailing it at 99 years old 🙂

  6. I read The Martian and went to see the movie and it was amazing. The only problem I had with the book was all the science jargon. I skimmed through it, but I know it is necessary to understand all the things he does to survive.

  7. Oh, I'm SO glad you chose A Girl from Yamhill! (And a little flattered since I suggested it. 🙂 I can't wait to hear your thoughts and for you to read her second memoir!

  8. We actually read Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians last year in our Cary NC book club. It's definitely a fun quick read!

  9. Good choices. It'll be nice to see what you think. And speaking of books, are you not going to do your quarterly review this quarter? I've got my post all ready to go for the link-up.

  11. I listened to The Martian on audiobook. There's a LOT of foul language. Maybe reading the book softens the bad language somewhat, but listening to it was awful. To use that much profanity is just lazy writing.
