We’re in the middle of teen birthday years and my teens love to have a birthday party to celebrate with friends!
Recently, a reader reached out on Instagram asking for teen birthday party ideas and I opened it up to my community to share ideas!
Here are some great birthday party ideas for teens – I hope you’ll find just the right fit for your teen!

TEEN BIRTHDAY PARTY IDEAS
- Escape Room
This was the MOST mentioned teen birthday party idea! It works for both boys and girls and is perfect for kids who love puzzles. A big tip that was shared from other parents is to skip the party package and just do the game, then go out to eat afterward. - Cookie Decorating Party
My oldest daughter would be all about this party idea! She loves baking and decorating cakes. Buy or make dozens of sugar cookies and stock the tables with frostings and sprinkles, and then give out prizes for “most creative”, “most colorful”, “best use of sprinkles”, etc. Plus, they won’t complain about having to eat them after. - Murder Mystery Party
Assign characters, hand out clues, and let the teens play detective all night. SO fun for a group that loves a good story. There are a lot of already-done-for-you sets online. - Karaoke Party
Get ready to let everyone sing their hearts out! Great for solo singers, duets, and group numbers – this one is a blast for teens (and nobody has to be a good singer to have a blast!) - Spa day or “Spa-jama” Party
Think pajamas, nails, and facials, with a cozy snack spread on the side. It’s a great fit for a sleepover, and the girls will walk away feeling pampered. One mom even took her teens on a trip to a local hair school, where students styled all the girls’ hair and did nails. - DIY Spa Party
There were several suggestions of inviting friends over to make their own body scrub, bath salts, and mini bath bombs. If DIY isn’t your favorite thing to handle as a parent or you just want a party outside of your house, one mom took her teens to Buff City Soaps. - Bedazzling Party
Each girl gets an Instax picture frames or plain denim jackets from Target/Old Navy to decorate however she wants. These are the bedazzling supplies we use. - Decoration Party
One mom bought a variety pack of hair claws, plain keychains, tiny charms and icing-style glue and let the girls go to town creating! - Bracelet Making
This one is easy, low-key, and SO fun! Everyone gets to go home with something they made. My girls love these bracelet sets, but if you want a fun charm option – these charms, bracelets, and rings are great supplies to grab for that! - Paint and Sip
This is one that you can do outside of the house at an actual paint and sip venue, or at home with only a few supplies (canvases, paint brushes, and paint). You can have a really creative night out (or in). - Nail Art Party
Have you seen the nail art out there!? It’s incredible! All you really need for this is a big variety of nail polishes, gems, nail art pens, and stickers. It’s a simple setup, and they will be busy for hours! - Finger Knitting Party
No needles needed! It’s a great option for beginners, and surprisingly relaxing. Put on a movie in the background and let them work on it together. - Coloring and Snacks Party
Set out a pile of coloring pages, markers, and plenty of snacks, and let the conversation flow. It’s simple, and it’s perfect for a group that loves to chat. (I love buying these coloring books when they go on sale for around $5 each!) - Movie Night & Snack/Candy Board
Pick a favorite movie, then build a snack or candy board to go with it. The board is half the fun, and it makes a regular movie night feel like a real event. - Outdoor Movie
We love doing outdoor movies, it’s just like movie night, only better, because you get to watch it under the stars. Add blankets, pillows, and popcorn, and you’re set. (This is the projector, inflatable screen, and Bluetooth speaker we use.) - Glow Party
I mean, I might want to do this for my birthday! Swap in black light bulbs, add glow sticks and neon paint, and the let the teens have a blast. Plus, it looks amazing in photos. - Fire Pit with S’mores
You don’t have to go over-the-top elaborate for a teen party, something as simple as a fire pit and s’mores can be such a hit! If you want to take it up a notch – stock up on ingredients for fun s’mores combinations. - Hot Tub and Hot Cocoa Party
This was the exact party my tween had for her winter birthday and it was a HUGE hit! We started with some coloring (each guest got their own coloring book), and then moved on to the hot tub and hot cocoa. - Game Night
If the weather is nice, break out the outdoor games and let the kids have at it. If you want something indoors, set out several card tables with board games and card games. One mom even rented a soft-serve machine for the event! - Dirty Soda or Mocktail Bar
These are so big right now! For Ella’s 16th birthday, she did a mocktail tasting party and all the girl’s LOVED it! You can see all about it here. - Bowling, Mini-Golf, and Arcade
If you want a no-fuss option, book one of these and you’re done. The activity does the entertaining for you, and the teens get plenty of time to talk and laugh. - Improv Comedy Show
One mom shared how she took the teens to a clean and age-appropriate improv comedy show and they loved it (and it was super easy from the parents-side of things)! - Mall Scavenger Hunt
You can find these premade for you on Etsy, and then let them race around the mall in teams completing challenges. It’s a good way to burn off energy, and the prep is already done for you. - Floral Arranging
This one is SO easy to pull off. Grab a ton of different flower varieties from your local supermarket (Trader Joe’s is my favorite!) or snip some stems from your own yard. Then let the teens go to town. You can set out kraft paper so they can wrap their own bouquets, or pick up a few vases they can decorate and let everyone make an arrangement to take home. It’s an activity and party favor in one. - Dressing Up and Going Out to Dinner
One family picked the menu in advance and paid a per-person price, so everything was ready when the group walked in. What a great way to make a night out feel special, and it keeps the stress low for the parent hosting.
