Making Our 65 Year Old Home a Little More Convenient

This post is sponsored by Enbrighten,  but all opinions are my own.

One thing about having a house that’s almost 70 years old is that are definitely some inconveniences.

The idea of a walk-in closet was clearly NOT a thing for most homes in the 1950s.

An ensuite bathroom? HA! (That would be a no).

And a garage? That’s for people who don’t enjoy scraping ice off their windshields all winter long.

These are all inconveniences we signed up for when we bought an older house, and they weren’t deal breakers for us (good thing, too, because none of them are easy or inexpensive to solve in our house).

But it does mean that any time we CAN make our home a little more convenient? I’m going to do it.

Adding a pantry to our kitchen this summer has made my life better every single day since then.

Another, less expensive upgrade is Enbrighten Wi-Fi Smart Plugs.

I first discovered Enbrighten Wi-Fi Smart Plugs at Christmas several years ago when I realized that not having to crawl behind the tree multiple times a day to turn the lights on and off was a better way to live.

Since then, I’ve been adding the Enbrighten Wi-Fi Smart Plugs to our house in any spot I can.

Which turns out to be a lot of spots.

The Enbrighten Wi-Fi Smart Plugs make it super easy to add smart home control anywhere in your home and they sync effortlessly with Alexa or Google through the Enbrighten App.

I love the look of the Enbrighten Cafe Lights hanging on my back patio – I don’t love having to walk out in the cold before bed to turn them off. The Enbrighten Outdoor Smart Plugs allow me to just tell Alexa “turn off the patio lights” and go to bed.

Even better? I can use the Enbrighten app to program my patio lights to turn on automatically at sunset and off at 10:00.

The routines feature is super handy as school has started back up – you can have TV screens automatically shut off when it’s time to be done or have bedroom lamps dim or turn off as bedtime approaches (or turn on when it’s time to wake up).

I have one of our Enbrighten Wi-Fi Smart plugs in Tally’s room with her CD player plugged into it. It’s so nice to be able to switch it off after she’s fall asleep at night without having to try to creep soundlessly in to fumble with it.

And Enbrighten makes indoor AND outdoor smart plugs, which is a big plus since we use our outdoor space so much.

We put some Enbrighten Color Changing Landscape Lights along the edge of our patio path and it makes it more visible plus adds a little magic when the girls are playing out there in the evening or as we’ve enjoyed a last few outdoor movie nights before it got too chilly.

And with the holidays coming up, it’s extra handy to be able to have your Christmas lights turn on and off at the correct times.

If you’ve never used smart plugs before, the Enbrighten Wi-Fi Smart Plugs couldn’t be easier to set up and use (one of the things I especially love is that there is no hub required – just plug and play!).

And you’ll wonder how you ever lived without them.
