I think each year the 2 x 2 list gets better. So far, we've thoroughly enjoyed every book from the list (although we still have many unread ones!). These two were winners for both Ella and me. In fact, by the time we returned Cindy Moo to the library, Ella could recite nearly the entire book. I wish I'd caught that on video. . . . Horsefly and Honeybee by Randy Cecil. This is one of those little picture books that you don't want to think too hard about because it's a little ... Read More about 2 x 2 (by 2): Horsefly and Honeybee & Cindy Moo

There are only 20 books on the 2x2 list each year, and Jeff Mack wrote and illustrated two of them this year. And he illustrated a third one on the list written by someone else. So, yes, he might be someone to keep an eye on. Ella has already declared herself a big fan (if the number of times we've read his books in the last few weeks is any indication). Also, I think each year's list gets a little bit better. So far I've been really impressed with the 2012 list. The Woods is a great little bedtime story without being eye-rollingly saccharine. The little boy has lost his bunny that he ... Read More about 2 x 2 (by 2): The Woods and No Sleep for the Sheep!
I can tell my life is in better order when I have time to check out huge piles of picture books and read them with my girls. It's especially delightful now that Ani is starting to enjoy books too. Last Friday, we spent a cozy morning snuggled on the couch with blankets reading a good fifteen books after breakfast before going upstairs to get ready for the day. It was my idea of a perfect morning. Between the ALA awards, a new 2x2 list, plus a ton of best of 2013 list, we are experiencing an ... Read More about 10 New Picture Books to Check Out
