All About the Creami (+ my 3 favorite recipes)
I’ve had my eye on the Ninja Creami for nearly a year and finally bought one over Christmas break.
And . . . it lives up to the hype!
The Ninja Creami is one of those things that’s hard to explain without trying it yourself (in fact, Jen from my team came over with her husband one night and we made a whole bunch of different kinds and tried them together and her husband, who had been truly dubious, was sold on how cool it is).
The most frequent questions I get are “why not just use an ice cream maker or a blender instead?”
I have both of those items – and love them – but neither of them do what a Creami does.
With a blender, you’re going to end up with something much more liquidy – more smoothie or milkshake than ice cream.
With an ice cream maker, you have to start with a liquid that then freezes and you’d be hard pressed to make a milk and protein powder into a delicious ice cream.
What a Creami does is that you freeze a block of milk and protein powder or frozen fruit with a liquid frozen together and then the blade kind of works like a shaved ice machine to break it up into tiny pieces and then blends it together into a creamy ice cream. It’s kind of magical!
We’ve had ours for about two months now and it gets used virtually every single day. Whether it’s for a breakfast mango bowl before school, an after-school snack or a little evening ice cream treat, it’s been well-worth the money we spent on it!
Do you need one? Of course not. Is it extremely useful in our house? Absolutely.
I’ve had endless requests for recipes and I’m definitely no expert but I’ll share our 3 favorites below.
Before that, though, definitely take advantage of the little cookbook/booklet that comes with your Creami – it’s packed with great ideas and easy recipes and everything we’ve tried has been a hit.
Second, you can basically experiment to your heart’s content with any combination of milk (about 1 cup) and protein powder (one heaping scoop) and then whatever mix-ins go well with your flavors. It’s hard to mess up and pretty much everything we’ve tried has been great.
And third, if you want Ninja Creami recipes, my favorite Instagram follow is Shandi Lynn Martin who shares tons of Creami tips and recipes.
With that out of the way, here are our 3 favorite Ninja Creami Recipes:
3 Favorite Ninja Creami Recipes
- Frozen mango chunks with coconut milk. This is a recipe from the Creami cookbook that comes with your Creami and it’s been my #1 favorite. Just fill your jar to the line with frozen mango chunks, cover it with canned coconut milk and then freeze for 24 hours and blend on the Sorbet setting. I scoop it into a bowl and then add slivered almonds, shredded coconut, and banana chunks. It is divine.
- German chocolate cake. 1 cup of milk (whole milk is what we use), 3/4 of a scoop of Clean Simple Eats chocolate brownie protein powder (my code is JANSSEN) and 3/4 of a scoop of Clean Simple Eats Coconut Cream protein Powder. Blend together until smooth and freeze for 24 hours. Blend on Lite Ice Cream mode and then add pecan bits and shredded coconut as mix-ins.
- Strawberry Cheesecake. 1 cup of milk, 1 heaping scoop of Clean Simple Eats Strawberry Cheesecake Protein Powder (code is JANSSEN). Blend together until smooth and freeze for 24 hours. Blend on Lite Ice Cream mode and then add pieces of graham cracker as a mix-in and then top with fresh strawberry.
