Day in the Life: Winter Edition
It’s been a few months since I did my last Day in the Life post! Here’s what a week day at our house looked like last week!
Day in the Life: Winter Edition
5:22 a.m. I wake up a few minutes before my alarm, turn it off and get quietly out of bed so I don’t wake up Bart. I get dressed in my workout clothes that I’d set out the night before and then brush my hair and teeth. I pop into my office for a few minutes to post my reel for the morning then drive to the gym for a strength training class.
7:15 a.m. Class is over and I walk out with a friend, chatting about upcoming trips we each have planned. I listen to an audiobook on the drive home. The little girls are in the kitchen and while Bart makes them oatmeal, I do their hair while they watch a few minutes of a Dude Perfect sketch on YouTube. When I’m done, I start my breakfast cooking on the stove. Bart takes Star to choir practice at school while I tuck Tally into my bed to listen to Nanny Piggins on my phone (she’s usually not up this early but with Star doing choir this semester, she wakes up earlier when Star does, so she’s pretty tired).
8:00 a.m. I send a quick email for work and then get in the shower. I wash my hair, get dressed, do my makeup and then come out to the living room to read with Tally before she goes to school. She gets her jacket and shoes on and I drive her to school. When I come home, I finish making my breakfast while Ella decorates frog cupcakes (for a Leap Year Party) at the kitchen table.
9:00 a.m. We chat as I finish up and then I go into my office to start work. I make a list of things I need to get to today, respond to some emails and then film a couple of Instagram Stories, respond to DMs, and start on this post.
10:00 a.m. I go down to Bart’s office to talk to him about some work and home life things and we chat for a bit.
10:30 a.m. I film some reels, update some spreadsheets, respond to DMs, work on a blog post, change my shirt and film some more reels.
12:45 p.m. Bart comes into the kitchen and starts making lunch for us. We chat while he cooks and then sit down together to eat and plan out Jolly Good Dollar. After we’re done, we film a reel and some stories and respond to DMs.
2:00 p.m. Back in my office – I work on a blog post, respond to Everyday Reading DMs, and work on this post. I film another reel, plan for what I need to do tomorrow, and then work on emails for March. I wrap those up JUST as my girls arrive home and I close my laptop and leave my office.
3:30 p.m. I help the girls get some snacks, Bart takes Ani to swim team practice and Ella to pickleball lessons, Star goes over to a friend’s house and then Tally and I snuggle up on the couch with some picture books. I gather up the library books that are due and then the reminder goes off for Tally’s Savvy class. I get her set up and Bart and I chat for a few minutes. I get myself a snack (apples and peanut butter with mini chocolate chips) and sit down at the table with my Kindle to eat.
5:15 p.m. After Tally finishes up Savvy, we head out to pick up the girls from their various activities. Usually Bart does this but his truck is in the shop so we go together so he can pick it up on the way back. I’m feeling so tired and zone out for most of the drive while Bart and Ani chat and Tally nods off in the back seat. We drop Bart and Ani off at the car place, and Ella, Tally and I zip to the store to pick up salad supplies for dinner. Ella stays in the car with a snoozing Tally and I’m back in less than 3 minutes, then we swing by the house, I assemble the salad, Ella changes clothes and grabs her frog cupcakes and we head to Bart’s parents house. Bart and Ani arrive a few minutes later and Star walks from her friend’s house to their house too.
6:15 p.m. Bart’s mom has set up a Leap Year Facts Scavenger Hunt and the grandkids (and a few adults) do that and then we eat dinner and sit around at chat. Bart ducks out after about half an hour to attend a church event while the rest of us stay. Bart’s mom, Tally and I play about 8 rounds of Tenzi at Tally’s request and then we pack up and head home.
7:45 p.m. Tally didn’t eat much dinner so she eats some carrot sticks and plain spinach and then she and Star each have another frog cupcake while we have scripture reading around the kitchen table. When we’re done, everyone brushes their teeth while I get in my pjs and wash my face and we head into the little girls’ bedroom to read aloud while they take turns doing my hair. Bart gets home and comes in for family prayer and then I read for another 15 or 20 minutes. I tuck the little girls in and then go to my room to respond to DMs.
9:30 p.m. Ani comes into my room sobbing about how she doesn’t want to go on a little weekend trip tomorrow (I think she’s mainly stressed about packing), so I tell her my mom’s well-worn line about how everything feels worse at night and that we can make a decision about her coming with us or arranging for her to stay with Bart’s parents instead in the morning when she’s not so exhausted and overwhelmed. I take her to her room and tuck her in, then pop into my office to update this post.
9:45 p.m. Bart, Ella and I go into our room and watch part of an episode of Crash Landing On You. We’re getting near the end (episode 14 out of 16). I start to get really tried and when I check my clock it’s almost exactly 10:30, so we shut it off, send Ella to bed, turn on our sound machine, and turn off the lights. Good night!
