Day in the Life – Homeschool Edition
I’ve done a lot of Day in the Life posts over the years – I did my first one 12 years ago! – but when I mentioned that we were homeschooling this year (I talked about this decision in this post here if you missed it!), I had a million requests for a post that showed what a day in the life looks like now.
So here you go!
6:25 a.m. I wake up a few minutes before my alarm goes off, so I get quietly out of bed, change into my workout clothes, brush my teeth and head into my office. I post my reel for the morning, respond to a few emails and DMs, check some things, and then Tally comes in ready for her Chinese tutoring.
7:00 a.m. I make sure she gets on okay and put away some books in my office and then head out on a run. I do three miles (that last mile feels LONG today!) and listen to this audiobook while I run. I get home, make my bed, shower and get dressed and do my makeup.
8:15 a.m. I head into the kitchen and do the girls’ hair while they watch a Dude Perfect video. Tally heads into my room to do her Savvy class. I go back to my bathroom to do my hair. I run Star to her piano lesson which normally isn’t at this time but got rescheduled this week by her teacher. I post my weekly giveaway on Instagram.
8:45 a.m. I start my breakfast (I should have started it while I was doing the girls’ hair!) while the two big girls get an early start on their school work. Normally we have our Morning Meeting at 9 a.m. but the piano lesson rescheduling is throwing things off. When the girls hit a stopping point, I ask them if they want to help me make pear sauce. They peel about 2 dozen pears for me in 10 minutes while I core and slice them. Tally comes in from Savvy and she helps them unload the dishwasher. Star comes home and says her piano teacher never showed up (a quick text indicates that she was sick and totally forgot to reschedule. If there is anything homeschooling is teaching me, it’s to be more flexible).
9:20 a.m. I sit down at my desk with my breakfast and plow through my inbox and work on this post. Star starts her Savvy class. Once she’s done, we all gather in the living room for (a very late) Morning Meeting and after the girls have done their journaling, I read aloud the day’s history chapter. Today’s is short so when we’re done, the girls read some of the related history books I got from the library this week for another 15 minutes. I blend up the pear sauce that’s done cooking and let it cool, then go back to my office and finish up a blog post and update this post.
10:35 a.m. Tally is feeling lousy so she comes in and makes a little blanket bed on my office floor and listens to her Yoto while I work. I write another blog post and get it ready to send off to my team for final edits and scheduling.
11:30 a.m. I have some sponsored stories due today so I go into my room to film those, edit them, add the text overlays and send them to the brand for review.
12:00 p.m. Family reading time. Everyone gathers in the living room and snuggles up with their books for 30 minutes. Tally is still feeling lousy so she cuddles up with a blanket and keeps listening to her audiobook on her Yoto player. Bart has a work lunch so he heads out the door.
12:30 p.m. Time for lunch. I make nachos for the little girls and cut up some fruits and veggies. Ani makes herself a tuna melt and Ella makes herself a black bean and mango burrito. I have some nachos with guacamole and then some apples and peanut butter. We get all the dishes done (including some things I cleaned out from the fridge) and start the dishwasher.
1:30 p.m. Time for my weekly call with Kristin on my team. We talk about looooots of data and numbers for 45 minutes. I update this post and now it’s time to run Ella to her art class.
2:40 p.m. Back from dropping off Ella and it’s time to bang out some more work (one of Star’s best friends comes over to play with the two younger girls). I film some stories and reel for another campaign then deal with some returns and respond to some emails and then take a little break to clean up a little which lets me move and my mind calm down a bit. Ani has a church activity so she walks over to that.
5:30 p.m. I do NOT want to make dinner (and I should have started 30 minutes ago) and nothing on my menu looks good, so I do a quick search and decide on this ramen recipe instead. I set things out to defrost and Ella unloads the dishwasher and Ani sets the table. Bart comes in and we chat while I make dinner along with the two big girls.
6:20 p.m. We sit down to dinner a little bit late and do scripture reading during dinner. Bart does the dishes and then Ani and I peel and cut the rest of the pears and put them on the stove for another batch of pear sauce (the first batch is already gone!). Ani looks through our Audible library to find more titles to add to her Kindle and I do my Everyday Reading Book Club stories. Ella goes to her church activity and the little girls walk to my in-laws house to play for a bit.
8:30 p.m. All the girls are home and I update this post and then head to my room to get ready for bed so I can read to the girls.
8:45 p.m. I round up all the girls and I read a few chapters aloud while Ella draws, Ani finishes her math, and Tally and Star take turns doing my hair. Tally falls asleep during the last few pages and I carry her to bed and tuck Ani and Star in. Bart is on a work call, so Ella and I go into my office and chat for a few minutes and then I open a new Giiker game I got for an upcoming road trip and we test it out together (it is delightful!). Ella goes to bed and I go get in bed and read.
10:20 p.m. Bart comes into our room and gets ready for bed and then we go in the kitchen so I can have a glass of chocolate milk (I can tell I’m not QUITE full enough to sleep easily). I brush my teeth and we get in bed and watch the last 15 minutes of our Loki episode and then turn off the lights and go to bed.
Hi! We’re homeschooling as well right now. I’m curious which History book you’re reading aloud right now! Thanks!

My kids are big Dude Perfect fans. Sometimes getting to watch some of their videos before school is what gets them moving in the morning.
