A Match of Misfortune by Jess Heileman
I can’t even remember where this book got recommended to me, but it came up on my library holds and I’ve been sneaking in reading wherever I can – this regency romance is so fun!
Forbidden to Fall by Martha Keyes
I’ve mentioned a dozen times on Instagram this fall that I’ve been reading this closed door romance series set in a fictional Vermont town with all the fall delights you could ask for. This is book 7 of the 8 book series and I just can’t get enough. It has brought so much fun to my fall reading this year!
Odder by Katherine Applegate
My 9-year-old has complained a lot this year that all the books we read for family read-alouds are too old for her (I don’t think this is true, but it’s fair for her to feel this way) so after we finished My Side of the Mountain, I took her to the bookstore and we read the backs of dozens of books until she landed on this one. It’s a cute, quick read (all done in verse) about a little otter who is bitten by a shark and goes to an aquarium to be nursed back to health.
A Bear Called Paddington by Michael Bond
We’re doing Brave Writer for our homeschool language arts program this year and I’ve really liked it so far. This is our second book (we’re using the Emerging Writers Bundle 2) and it’s been fun to read this classic – I’m actually not sure I’ve ever read it!
The Gap and The Gain: The High Achievers’ Guide to Happiness, Confidence, and Success by Dan Sullivan and Dr. Benjamin Hardy
This is one of the book for the The Proper Mountain Woman Club fall session (my affiliate code is FALLEVERYDAYREADING) and I’ve been wanting to read this for ages! So fun to finally dive in.

Ungodly Rich by Katharine McGee
I put this book on hold what feels like forever ago! It took me a little while to get sucked in because I was finishing some other books, but a few chapters in, I couldn’t put it down. I even stayed up way too late finishing it one night (worth it!). The story follows Julia and her boyfriend Harry, who is actually Ares, the Greek god of war, and his complicated relationship with his family of Greek gods. It was so fun to imagine the Greek gods living in modern times, complete with all the drama, power struggles, secrets, and family dysfunction you would expect. I loved the mix of Greek mythology, romance, and modern-day drama, and once the story got going, I was completely hooked!

The Calamity Club by Kathryn Stockett
I kept seeing this book everywhere lately, so when a “lucky chance” loan opened up on my library’s audiobook hold list, I jumped at it! And you better believe the task seemed impossible when I saw that the audiobook is 28 hours long – and my loan was for 10 days!!! Thankfully, it completely sucked me in. It takes place during The Great Depression in Oxford, Mississippi and follows a young orphan girl, a single bookkeeper that visits her wealthy sister to ask for money, and a woman who will do anything to get back the thing that she loves after being dealt a life where everything is out against her – and how all three of their lives intertwine. I highly recommend listening to the audiobook, it is phenomenal! (I was also surprised to learn this is Kathryn Stockett’s first book since The Help.)

Last Summer on State Street by Toya Wolfe
I went to lunch with a friend recently and she said this was one of her favorite books she read this summer. Naturally, I had to look it up and I was pleased to find the audiobook available through my library! This takes place in the Chicago Robert Taylor Homes, aka “the projects”, and follows a 12-year old girl Fe Fe, who spends most of her hours playing Double Dutch with her two friends. But their neighborhood is being demolished around them, and when a new girl joins their group, their friendships start to shift too. This covers a piece of Chicago history I’ve never read about before, which immediately made me interested in it.
