Three of My Go-To Clothing Staples
There’s something so deeply satisfying about finding clothing items that you get a TON of wear out of.
This red skirt has been one of those clothing staples for me.
I ordered this on thredUP nearly two years ago (you can see it in this post back in 2015) and it has become a staple skirt in my wardrobe.
It’s the perfect length, has an elastic waist, and has pockets.
Plus it goes with everything.
(Gap appears to still sell this same skirt, just in different colors – I’m tempted to order the olive green version for the fall).
I didn’t wear it after I was about ten weeks pregnant because it was deeply unflattering with a baby bump, but as soon as I was back in regular clothing, it jumped right back into my weekly rotation.
I like it dressed up like this for Sundays or a nicer event, but I wear it just as much with sandals and a t-shirt.
It’s always really disappointing to me when I buy something and then end up never wearing it, or worse, put it on multiple times and keep changing out of it within an hour or two because I don’t like the way it looks or fits.
On the other hand, when something becomes a staple that you can’t remember how you got dressed without, well, that feels like a major win. And on any morning, you can grab them from your closet, throw them on, and know you’ll feel great about how you look.
This black top from Lucky (which looks TERRIBLE in the stock photos, I think) is another one that I bought on a whim (I cannot resist the lure of a black shirt, as you well know) and that I wear probably once a week, including last weekend with jeans on a date.
And, of course, these shoes which have shown in probably 50 blog posts. They’re just the perfect neutral shoe and when they finally wear out, I am going to be devastated.
Do you have items that you’ve been wearing for years and plan to keep wearing until they just fall apart?

Love that tote! I’ve looked on ThredUp multiple times for one but haven’t gotten lucky yet! I have a (fully lined) white lace t-shirt that I got there last year that quickly turned into a staple for work, church, bridal/baby showers. It looks fancy but is as comfortable as a t-shirt!
What size skirt are you wearing?
It’s an XS!
