A Taste Test Gift

A few years ago, the girls were trying to decide what to give Bart for Christmas and we came up with the idea of a Root Beer taste test.

Root Beer is by FAR his favorite soda and a little store in Provo sells a ton of speciality sodas, so we went over and picked out our favorites and then a few days after Christmas, we had our taste test after dinner. My brother and his girlfriend were in town, so they joined us and we had the best time!

taste test Ella made us little score sheets to rank each soda and everyone took it VERY seriously.

It was a great gift and it’s perfect especially for those hard-to-buy for people because it’s a fun experience to have together or separately and they don’t have to store anything after the fact (jackpot for parents and in-laws!).

You could do it with so many items too:

  • Cheeses
  • Salsa
  • Crackers
  • Ice Cream
  • Sparkling ciders
  • Sports drinks
  • Chocolate milk
  • Protein powders
  • Cookies
  • Cold cereal
  • Granola bars
  • Protein bars
  • Oreo flavors
  • Lemonades
  • Flavored almonds

And probably another million options – it’s so easy to tailor it to what your gift recipient loves or is interested in!

To gift a taste test, I usually put everything in a nice gift box or bag with a card explaining the gift (something like “We know you love Oreos so we thought it’d be fun to taste a whole bunch together and see which is one is best!” You could also include a set time if you want to do it together or a general time (“this week before school starts up again”).

And if you really want to go fancy, you can include scoring cards and pens or pencils – you can buy designed taste test score sheets or make your own.

It’s such a fun, simple gift that be customized for the recipient and it’s a perfect mix of experience and physical gift!

Have you given (or received) a taste test gift? I’d love to hear!

  1. Last year I did two taste tests for my husband and it was a hit! I did root beer (and got 15 different brands) and we did chocolate. Trader Joe’s sells a chocolate passport at Christmas time for $10. Super easy- they gathered all the varieties for you!

  2. Our family did this one year on vacation with Jelly Belly Jelly Beans. It was SO fun to try and rank all the different flavors!

  3. After your post last year about the burger hop you did, we gifted that experience to my sister-in-law and her husband. Super fun couples’ date night! I’m not sure how I’m going to top that this year. 🙂
