A Few of My Goals for 2025

Happy 2025!

2024 went by in a flash for me and it is wild that we’re in a new year now.

This is a big year for me because I’m turning FORTY this fall – I still feel about 17 inside, so this feels very strange to me.

AND I love getting older and things feel really good in my life right now.

I’m really looking forward to 2025 and lots of fun adventures ahead.

Here are a few of my goals for this year:

A Few of My Goals for 2025

  1. Try out Fable for Everyday Reading Book Club. This is Year 8 for Everyday Reading Book Club and I’m excited about this year’s list of books. One of the biggest requests for book club has been to have some opportunity for people to interact with each other and I think Fable might be a good solution. I’m excited to give it a try this year – you can see our Book Club on Fable here (it’s free!).
  2. Winter Weekend Old Movies. My mother-in-law (who is always up for fun!) and I have been talking about this for months and are finally starting it this weekend – there are lots of old movies I haven’t seen or I want to make sure my girls see, and doing it with my in-laws makes it feel like more of an EVENT. I’m so excited about this over the next few months (and if it is a success, we’ll start it back up in the fall as the weather gets cold again and the days get shorter).
  3. Show more gratitude. This was one of my goals in 2024 and I’d like to keep working on it. It is really meaningful to me when someone takes the time to send me a nice DM about how my blog has helped them or that they had a great time at something I hosted and I want to be better at doing the same for others. This isn’t anything fancy – no handwritten cards – but just a simple, heartfelt text or in-person comment.
  4. Read 175 books. This was my goal in 2024 and I missed it by quite a bit (I was in the low 130s). But this year I really think I can make it happen with a little more focus. I track all my reading on Goodreads and I’m really hoping to never let myself get more than 10 books behind my goal.
  5. Do 5 new hikes. Last summer, Bart and I hiked more than I ever have in my life (we were prepping for doing Timpanogos at the the end of the summer which was so thrilling to do for the first time!) and it felt like it opened up a whole new part of living in Utah. This year, I’d like to do 5 new-to-me hikes, whether it is with friends, with Bart, or with our kids.
  6. Host an in-person event. I can tell this is a goal that will stretch me a little because just thinking about it makes me want to throw up a little, but I want more chances to connect off-line this year and I’d love to meet some of you that are local! I’m not sure exactly what it will look like, but I think it could be really fun!
  7. Keep up my (mostly) daily Flecks of Gold journaling. This journal is a three year journal with a few lines every day to record special or funny moments with your kids (or just your life). I started doing it in 2024 and I’ve loved it as a way to wind down before bed. (P.S. My Flecks of Gold code is EVERYDAYREADING).
  8. Make 5 things from Baking with Dorie. I got this cookbook in 2021 or 2022 and I was SO excited about it and now have made . . . zero things from it. This year, my goal is to make 5 different recipes from it!
  9. Start reading earlier to the girls. I love reading aloud to my girls at night but most of the time, I just start too late. I get caught up on Instagram or doing “one last thing” and then we don’t start until a solid 30 minutes later than I meant to. My goal is to be ready to read at 8 p.m. most nights.

What goals or resolutions are on your list for 2025? I’d love to hear!

  1. Speaking of gratitude, THANK YOU for all the great book recommendations (and tips, in general) over the years. I’ve lost count of how many books you’ve recommended (for both kids and adults) that have become my very favorites. Wishing you a wonderful 2025!
