All about the Proper Mountain Woman Club
At the beginning of the year, I was working on a post about how to enjoy winter and the Proper Mountain Woman Club kept coming up when I asked for suggestions.
And these weren’t casual suggestions for something they’d enjoyed.
No, messages about Proper Mountain Woman Club looked like this:
The Proper Mountain Woman Club has changed my life. I used to hate winter. But now I look forward to it.
and
It has truly pulled me out of my seasonal depression for the first winter of my adult life! Truly life changing) I’m having the best time!
Wow! With messages like that, I knew I needed to sign up for it and try it out for myself!

Here’s the basic rundown for how Proper Mountain Woman Club works – it is basically like Girl Scouts for adult women.
Every session (there are ones for pretty much every season) there is a list of merit badges you can earn.
You log those digitally and then if you do a certain amount of badges, those count toward patches and at the end of the session, the physical patches you’ve earned are mailed out to you. (So physical patches and digital merit badges).
There are usually 200+ possible merit badges to earn across a variety of categories.
Winter and Summer sessions are the big ones (in fact, the Proper Mountain Woman Club started as only as Summer session!) but now there are lighter Spring and Fall sessions with less merit badges and a smaller price tag, so it’s the perfect time to test it out if you’re curious but not quite ready to commit to the whole shebang!

I found it absolutely delightful and it was such a fun way to add a little structure, whimsy, and meaning to my winter this year.
I’m jumping feet first into the Spring session!
Here are some of the questions that came in about the Proper Mountain Woman Club!
How much does it cost?
Full sessions (Summer and Winter) are $75 each. Lighter sessions (Spring and Fall) are $50 each. Use my affiliate code everydayreading10 for 10% off!
How much of a time commitment for some badges?
They are all over the place! Some you could finish in just a few minutes (like “Sing a song at karaoke night” or “wear a locket with a picture inside” or “try 3 British candies you’ve never tried before) while others might take quite a while (like “walk the perimeter of Hyde Park (3 miles) 5 times” or “Make a Plum Pudding” or “Read Jane Eyre”). You get to choose which badges you go after so you can lean toward shorter easier ones or bigger longer ones!
Is it worth the membership…rather than just finding a winter hobby?
You’re the only one who can decide that! If you have a winter hobby in mind and you’re ready to go after it, that might be a better fit for you. If you need some guidance and want some fun and whimsy, this might be a great fit for you and well worth the cost.
Where do you get it?
It is entirely online – you can sign up here (and use my code everydayreading10 for 10% off).
Does it help you connect with local people?
Not necessarily, but you could certainly use it that way. There are lots of badges that lend themselves well to connecting with other people!
Is it doable with little kids?
Absolutely! I’ve loved hearing from so many moms with young kids who have found it so fun to have their own projects to work on instead of being in mom mode all the time.
Do they have a spring season?
Yes! The spring season just started this weekend, so this is the perfect time to sign up!
Are you learning new skills?
There are LOTS of opportunities to learn new skills with it – some of the ones from the Winter 2026 session including snowshoeing, lots of cooking projects, calligraphy, book binding and so much more. Again, you have a lot of control over which ones you go
Is it challenging?
Yes, but in a good way!
How time consuming is it?
As much or as little as you want it to be! I love that the workbook says “You’ll see troop members earning badge after badge, baking pies at sunrise, hiking at dusk and somehow building a greenhouse in between. Hooray for them! But hear this loud and clear: there is no race. Some members are juggling full-time jobs or raising kids. Others are empty nesters cranking out merit badges faster than we can type them. All paces are welcome here. The goal isn’t to earn the most – it is to earn what matters to you. This club is here to add joy, not guilt. It’s a gentle nudge toward purpose, not a pressure cooker of productivity. So whether you earn one badge or fifty, let it be because it fills your cup – not emptied it.”
I just signed up for the Spring session and I cannot wait – if you join, let me know and we can work on badges together (my affiliate code is everydayreading10 for 10% off the club dues).

I’m curious what the physical patches are like, and what you do with them!
I’ll share them on Instagram when mine arrive (you can see previous ones here https://www.instagram.com/p/DVtlgnzCXRz/) and I’m planning to put them on my thread bag!
Thanks for the link & the discount if I decide to jump in 😊 I’ve been following the IG for awhile & it sounds like it will be really fun!
I see the address is in UT, but some of the badges look Britain-based-make plum pudding, walk the perimeter of Hyde Park. I imagine there is something for everyone and it won’t seem like you can’t do some based on your location?
“Walk the perimeter of Hyde Park” is a distance, not a location (meaning you walk about 3 miles, not the actual perimeter of Hyde Park). Does that make sense? Pretty much all of them you can do from anywhere.
Each seasonal session has a theme. This year’s Winter Session was based on a charming, historical fiction book series, “ The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion” about a British woman in the 1800’s. Many badges were based on elements found in the books. It was a lot of fun! This Spring the theme focuses on herbs, and last Summer’s Session focused around the Pacific Northwest. (I skipped the Fall Session, but missed the ideas/activities encouraged by earning badges, that I rejoined for the Winter Session, and am so glad I did.)
