Non Update

Still no baby. I think our parents are starting to think I might not actually be pregnant, and that this has all been an elaborate farce.

At my doctor’s appointment yesterday, they informed me that I’d made no progression since the appointment five days earlier (although the non-stress test did show that I was having somewhat more frequent and stronger contractions, even if I can’t really feel them).

And now I’m scheduled for an induction on Friday.

I haven’t wanted to get induced because your risks of c-section and other complications go up when you’re induced, but at this point, I’m getting more worried about this baby getting too big for my little body, not to mention the fact that I have a one-way plane ticket to Austin in two and a half weeks and I’d rather not go straight from the hospital to the plane, thank you very much.

Also, whatever your suggestions for inducing labor, well, I’ve almost certainly done it. I’m still walking close to three miles a day (and even ran a good portion of it on both Friday and Saturday), I’ve eaten spicy foods and pineapple, and done the stairs in my apartment (four stories) multiple times. This baby is not impressed.

I haven’t stooped to castor oil yet, though. On Easter Sunday, I watched Jamie drink it and I still haven’t recovered from just watching it.

  1. Ha. I dont know why I find this funny 🙂 I guess I am just mean! and I remember what it is like waiting and waiting….and waiting. it stinks.
I was induced with both my girls and I really liked my labors (well "like" is maybe not the right word but for as labors go, they were both pretty darn easy)…so good luck (this is me passing my easy labor vibes your way)
You will have a baby before the weekend!! Even though I am sure you thought that last week. Maybe she is just shy?

  2. Ugh. I disliked the waiting. During the last week before my due date I was taking a lot of walks and trying to encourage the little guy out. It ended up working. However, I was also concerned with my family history of having really big babies.

At least now you know that by Friday you will have your baby. That's exciting! Good luck to you and Bart. I hope you will share the story with us. I love birth stories.

  3. I’ve been induced twice, and I’m hoping with this pregnancy I can go into labor naturally… you know, so I can have more clout or something when birthing war stories are shared. Keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

As for you, I’m wishing you easy labor vibes no matter what and I’ll even cross a few toes for you if you’d like.

  4. Man, this baby really likes it in there, huh? I hope the induction goes smoothly! Baby Friday at the latest! Eee!

  5. Here's hoping sweet baby comes safely no matter what the method!
I was induced twice and had wonderful experiences. Happy thoughts!!!

  6. To bring you comfort in two ways ; I had huge babies and induced babies and everything worked out great! We are so excited to hear the good news! For your sake I hope she comes today! Or tomorrow 🙂 can't wait to see pictures I bet she could be a month late and still be tiny!

  7. I was induced with both Nathan and Emily and…loved it. It was fast and there were no complications.
I hope, that if you end up going that route, that the same experience happens for you.

    Good luck!

  8. and you know the hubby's favorite way to get the baby to come – dare I say it on a public blog? Stimulation.

I've done going into labor naturally, induced and emergency c, but I'd have to say induced was the easiest. Naturally was the best. C was the worst. Best of luck, I'll be praying for you.

  9. I LOLed at the "elaborate farce" comment. Your sweet girl is just nice and comfortable right now!

I don't have any sage words of wisdom (and know you weren't really asking for any either), but both of my pregnancies and deliveries went a tad bit different than I had planned. My first ended in an induction, which turned out to be a really positive experience. My second ended in a c-section after my water broke a couple weeks early and my baby was still breech.

Whatever happens with you, I hope it will all go smoothly and be very positive for you. Good luck and I hope you will share your "baby story" with us!

  10. I laughed also, especially at the "she is not impressed" line. Hoping for a smooth and easy delivery for you!

  11. "Marital relations" got you pregnant, and I hear that can help get labor going. 🙂 I'm sad you're moving to Austin but glad that Little Miss Everyday Reading will be born in Boston! Good luck!

  12. I'm so sorry. I must agree that a "too big" baby (oh and the plane ticket to Austin in 2 and half weeks) is a good reason to be induced. Big babies run in my family (I pray for babies under 9lbs… Raymond made it by 2 ounces) and I have that fear too. I hope she's still as little as you are and that everything works out with the induction. I'll keep my fingers crossed there's no C-section.

(note: just about everyone I know (it seems like) gets induced and non of them have had a c-section. Not that that's all that comforting compared to the hard statistics. But don't give up hope!)

  13. The Pirate was not scheduled but I did have pit to get things going (water broke, but contractions did not follow) and it wasn't bad at all. The Bug did it all on his own and it was so fast. My dr confirmed today that she thinks I'll be 3-4 weeks early this time too. That's… not very long. I think I'd rather be induced than have a giant baby, esp if I were tiny like you.

  14. Just wanted to leave you another "happy ending" induction comment. Both my babies were induced and I had short, very uneventful labors.

    Wishing you well!

  15. Well, I'll just add my story to the several others on here but I was induced with both of my kids and had each of them naturally, no c-section, with no complications. My first was a week overdue so they induced me to be cautious. My second I chose to be induced six days early because I could and he weighed 9 lbs. 10 oz. How much would he have weighed if I'd waited?! So, you'll do great, your baby will be fine, and you've got a whole blogging world rooting for you!

  16. LOL. I ate my weight in pineapple trying to get Piper to come. Didn't really believe it would help but at that point you feel like you having to be doing something!

Hope she decides to venture forth soon!

  17. Just have sex. The prostaglandins in semen help ripen the cervix. I'm sure someone has already said this. But I'm a nurse, so if that helps…there you go. I get to throw around words like "prostaglandins". Good luck!
