Hospital Amusements
Ella was born at the Brigham and Women’s hospital in Boston, near Fenway park, which is widely considered one of the best hospitals in the country.
I was really very happy with our experience there (heinous parking costs aside and no, I cannot let it go). The nurses were wonderful, the labor and delivery rooms were extremely nice, the food was generally quite delicious, and the lactation staff was superb.
But my absolute favorite thing about the hospital was the TV in each post-partum room, which had a list of videos for patients to watch, including ones about installing a carseat, tips for nursing, and what to expect in the first six weeks.
Oh yes, and several videos about teen abstinence and birth control.
Seems to me that if you’re sitting in the post-partum bed, it might be a case of too little, too late as far as those topics go.
That hospital is one of the featured hospitals on Boston Med on Thursday nights. Last week they featured the maternity ward. That's pretty awesome that you delivered there! Oh and I have to know, did you order that famous shake of theirs?
I think you may be right about that Jannsen. Congrats on having a healthy and happy baby! She looks beautiful.
That sounds like a great experience. Good call on the teen abstinence video!
I was also wondering about the famous shake. Did you try one? 🙂
Awesome. When Megan (Eric's cousin) had her baby, at her first appointment her doctor emphasized that she needed to decide what sort of birth control method she wanted to start using when she came back in six weeks. She told her that even though she wasn't supposed to be having sex the first six weeks, she could still get pregnant if she was nursing. Then she told her that she has had patients come in for their six-week follow-up who were ALREADY pregnant again.
So maybe those birth control videos are for those people. (Or the fathers?)
Ha! Hilarious.
But I am interested to learn more about the famous milkshakes… Did you have one? Was it really all that?
Beautiful baby! My favorite hospital amusement was when the doctor came in to our postpartum room at 5:00 AM to talk to me about birth control. I had had maybe two hours of sleep since the birth. Really? REALLY? I think that could have waited.
Wait, what's the famous milkshake?
Ha. Wonderful and congrats! You both look great.
those options sound a lot better then the horrible movie about shaken baby syndrome they forced me to watch after i had ethan. a documentary of an actual family from Ogden, it was way more then my tender emotions/hormones could handle so i turned the volume completely down and had bryan distract me. One day I will make it down to boston and see you guys! Maybe not for a while though since babies will be priority #1 for a while.
was it just as hard to name your bloggie baby as it was to pick out a name for your real baby? (if it was hard)
I was out of town so besides your Facebook post, I hadn't gotten to see any of the details. I'm now caught up and oh my goodness she is absolutely beautiful! And, I promise you, I do not say that about every baby because honestly, some are just silly looking. But Enna is amazingly adorable!
I'm so sorry you were so nauseous and had to throw up twice, as if all the labor stuff isn't hard enough. Right now I can't get enough of reading about different labor experiences so I greatly appreciate your sharing all the details.
Enjoy that little one!
I just don't even know where to start!!! Yes, Boston Med – Thurs night… I wondered if that was where you and Enna were…. Parking – ridiculous – you are in labor for heavens sake! Let us park for free – valet and all!!!! OK, can I just say "Bristol"……that is all! (and that last piece, squinch up your face and say just as Meryl Streep would in The Devil Wears Prada…..) She is BEAUTIFUL and I don't know who she looks like… can't wait till the trip to "home" to see her!!!!
I put a copy of Enna Burning on my staff recommended reads shelf tonight. (It is my favorite Shannon Hale book after all.) Then I thought of you and had a little smile. Hope you are enjoying her!
Teeeeeee heeeee on the teen pregnancy/birth control videos. They must be trying to eliminate repeat performances! 😉
Every time I watch Boston Med, I think of you.
HAHA i'm still laughing about that.
Lactation staff????? Videos about teen abstinence and birth control? Oh dear. Laughing and knowing why medical costs are out of control.
Good point on the movie selection. I'm back and SO happy to hear Enna arrived safely. Love the name! I'm sure there are more posts further down, hope I can squeeze in a bit more reading time . . .
