2013 Goals
Another year, another set of goals.
I love this time of year and I love seeing so many other people share their goals. If you’ve written about your goals, please leave a link in the comments so I can go check yours out!
Here are some of mine for 2013, which I feel certain is going to be a great year:
Health
- Run a 10K
- 2 Desserts a week (I did this in 2009 and it was by far the most effective way I’ve kept my sugar eating in check. Of course, Bart did it with me that year, so we’ll see how I do this year on my own).
- Reduce food waste, especially with the CSA
- More vegan meals (I’d like to have 15 go-to recipes by the end of the year).
- Be in bed by 10:00 p.m. most nights (with the lights out by 10:30)
Marriage
- Read four books together
- Monthly dates
Friends
- Have a different family over for Sunday dinner 12 times this yearÂ
- Host three parties
Parenting
- Be patient and present
- Family outings on weekends (6 new things in Texas)
- Keep my phone away while I’m with my children
Skills
- Improve my photography
- Learn how to use Photoshop better

I've never officially created a list of yearly goals, so this is new for me. But hoping it helps me make a few positive changes in 2013!
2 desserts a week is a great idea! =) Here are my goals. =)

I love reading your blog and am excited for this new year!

See… These seem so doable! Not easy, just doable. I think I complicate mine too much. I didn't make a list necessarily but I did come across something that helped me think about better goals and wrote about that. Still count?
If you want some fabulous vegan meals, go to greenereating.com My nieces are vegan, and these are most of their recipes.
I set goals last year, and gave a monthly report to myself on my blog. It really helped me keep them in mind. I actually remembered them at the end of the year and could see what I accomplished! I set new ones for this year. They are on my blog – joyfulreader.blogspot.com Jan 1, 2013. (I can't remember how to do a real link on a comment, and my daughter is not here to coach me.)
I like how you chose categories, and set goals. Maybe next year I'll define my categories more clearly.
Happy New Year!
Diane, I can never remember the code for links in comments, either, so I just use whenever I need to add a link. I'm doing monthly goals this year because I think it will help me get more accomplished. I posted only a vegetarian, but my favorite vegan meal is good ol' fashioned vegetable soup, followed closely by rice and roasted veggies. Pinterest has been a fabulous resource.
I also want to try eating more vegan meals this year, I already do vegetarian twice a week but a little variety is nice. I look forward to hearing about what you come up with!
Your idea of sunday dinner with a different family once a month is great, I think I might try implementing that as well!
We need to make a point of getting out to do stuff with Henry on the weekends. He's not a baby anymore (SOB!) and it turns out he LIKES getting out and about!
Love these! Mine can be found here
My one goal this year is "Talk less, listen more." I should probably make a few more goals but I feel like that one is my most pressing and deserves most of my attention at the moment!
I like your goals! One of mine is to keep my phone away from the time I get home from work until my daughter is in bed. Unless it's a phone call but no playing on it!
I love your marriage goals. My husband and I used to love to read together but we have fallen out of the habit.I wrote about my reading goals for 2013 here
i need to do the same with going to bed at 10. my bedtime has gotten all out of whack with spencer working late.
I also have a goal to have people over for dinner more.
I have a goals post coming, but first I need to get through all of my end of the year posts.
Have you seen the TED talk on introverts? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0KYU2j0TM4) The reading with your husband as a goal really reminded me of it.
We made a goal last year to invite a different family over for dinner every month…it really helped us make friends in our new ward!
I hope you will share your vegan recipes. That is one of my goals for this year, too!
Love the variety!
I'll throw out two more Web recommendations for vegan meals (www.ohsheglows.com just started a how-to series and http://www.dailygarnish.com–written by a culinary school grad with a few vegetarian meals too). Both focus on whole-food recipes and adding fresh, accessible ingredients instead of "fake" meat/cheese products or what you're leaving out by cooking vegan.
I love your goals! I think it would be great to read books with my husband, but he's not a big reader. Any tips on how you plan to make it work with your husband? Or good books guys would like? 🙂
um, i'm a dork who doesn't know how to link in comments. but i did blog about my goals. 🙂
love your list. love the one about you and bart reading books together. that happens maybe once every couple years for nate and i. i like the idea of making that a new years resolution. good luck and happy 2013! 🙂
I love reading goals, and I think I might borrow yours for two desserts a week.
I love your goals, especially the photography goal. That was one of my goals last year. The book Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson really helped me and really any photography book by Bryan Peterson is sure to be good.
I love resolutions, but have the hardest time keeping up with them. Hopefully I'll be able to do so with mine this year. I love that yours are just one step up from what you did last year. It really seems like that would make them easier to accomplish.
