Today Blogger, Tomorrow Newsweek
I recently started reading Chirky (a fellow Texan!), and she was interviewed on her blog today by another blogger. She offered to interview anyone who was interested with five questions of her choosing, and I took her up on it. Here are her questions and my answer. (If you want to play along, there are instructions at the bottom). Onward:
Were you unhappy before and are you happy now? I’m generally a very happy person and pretty excited about life in general (my dad jokes about how lethargic I am, because I’m always beyond jazzed for the next trip, holiday, etc). The year I was in eighth grade was a pretty lonely and depressing year for me, although I don’t really have much of a memory of it anymore, which I don’t mind. I also was really stressed when we didn’t know where we were going to move or what we were going to do after Bart graduated, since I don’t deal well at all with uncertainty. Now, though, I’d say I’m the happiest I’ve ever been in my life. Life isn’t perfect, to be sure, but Bart and I have made a great life for ourselves here; we own a great little house, I enjoy my job, I love our friends here, I adore Austin, and I’m excited about the good things that are ahead of us.
Ocean or Mountains? This question amuses me, since so many people from Utah comment about how different it feels to be in Austin where there are no mountains. I grew up in Las Vegas which is surrounded by mountains, but I guess I never really noticed, because I don’t notice that there aren’t ones in Austin. Personally, if I had to choose between the two, I’d pick ocean, because I’d much rather live close to the water than a mountain. After all, I’m much more likely to go to the beach than hiking up a mountain. Also, I think water is prettier than rocks.
What is the last thing you do before getting into bed at night? I check my cellphone three or four times to make sure I’ve set the alarm, to make sure it’s actually on, and that I haven’t set it for p.m. instead of a.m. I’m just sort of a worrier that way.
Magenta or Plum? Why? Hands down: Plum. Magenta is so. . .stressful. Plum is rich and relaxing. Our bedroom is painted a deep plum color and it’s the best bedroom color I’ve ever had. It’s so easy to sleep in that room. Plus, you can eat a plum, but not a magenta.
If you could be a celebrity for the day, who would you be? Wow, this is a hard one. . . I think maybe Kate Beckinsale, just because I think she’s so unbelievably gorgeous. I have this secret desire to die my hair dark and see what it’s like not to be a blonde. Maybe if my hair starts going darker on it’s own, I’ll go much darker. Plus, she’s got a British accent, which would be fun.
So, do you want to be interviewed?
Leave me a comment saying, “Interview me.”
I will respond by emailing you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
You will update your blog with the answers to the questions.
You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.
I think water is prettier than rocks, too.
I loved your answers – thanks for playing along!

By the way, I did this on my old blog once, but none of you kids responded to it.
