Summer Book Deals for August

We’re back to school and just like that, it almost feels like the summer was a dream!

After lots of fun this summer, all the girls were definitely ready to get back to a routine and it’s been a good start to the school year so far!

Now the weekend is for soaking in the the last weeks of summer sunshine and, of course, sneaking in some reading time.

Here are some of my favorite book deals going on this weekend!

Summer Book Deals for August

The Happy Life of Isadora Bentley by Courtney WalshThe Happy Life of Isadora Bentley by Courtney Walsh – audiobook
I listened to this story about a reclusive university researcher who has given up on love (and basically all relationships) on my runs this summer and it was a nice distraction from the miles I was pounding out. The heroine is Isadora who finds a magazine article with 31 ways to be happy and decides she’s going to prove the author wrong – she’ll do all 31 things and there is no way she’ll be happier at the end. Right? This is a squeaky-clean love story with a STEM storyline and it’s a fun, fluffy delight.

Think Again: The Power of Knowing What You Don’t Know by Adam Grant – ebook
(also on audiobook sale)
I read and LOVED Adam Grant’s book, Originals a few years ago and his new book is equally good – he’s just so good at writing the kinds of books that you can’t stop thinking about. Like Originals, it’s full of fascinating stories and terrific insights, and I truly feel like every parent, business owner, teacher, and . . .okay, human, should read this one. It’s one I’ll be returning to again and again because it’s just so insightful!

Glitch by Laura MartinGlitch by Laura Martin – audiobook
This was one of the books on my list to read to the girls this year and we loved this time travel novel! It switches back and forth between the POV of the main girl and boy which is a little tricky for Tally to keep track of, but it’s quick moving and lots of fun history moments woven in. In fact, I loved it so much, it nabbed a spot on this year’s Summer Reading Guide!

Emily of New Moon by L. M. MontgomeryEmily of New Moon by L. M. Montgomery – audiobook
This is the lesser known trilogy of Anne of Green Gables. (I secretly love it more than Anne of Green Gables and read it dozens of times growing up.) Plus, L.M. Montgomery said Emily was her favorite heroine too.

The Blue Castle by L. M. MontgomeryThe Blue Castle by L. M. Montgomery – audiobook
If you want even more L.M. Montgomery this one is often people’s favorites of all her books! If you want something delightfully old-fashioned, this is for you. It’s a perfect fall read, now that summer will be winding down.

Book cover for The Terrible Two by Jory John & Mac BarnettThe Terrible Two by Jory John & Mac Barnett – audiobook
Ella and I listened to it together several years ago (she went on and listened to the rest of them alone) and it’s hilarious about two boys trying to out-prank each other. Now, all four of my girls can recite pretty much the entire book from memory because they’ve listened to it so many times.
