Fall Break
This week is fall break for Duke MBA students, so Bart has been home all week.
Yesterday, after Ella got home from preschool, we packed up the car and drove to South Carolina to spend a couple of days with my friend Meghan and her kids.
Her parents own a gorgeous lake house and let us stay here (I’m remembering how we briefly considered doing some camping this week and feeling really happy that we picked this option instead).
Today, we will be going out on the lake in their boat, doing some wimpy hiking, and enjoying a few delicious meals (I have been the happy beneficiary of Meghan’s great cooking on many occasions).
Life has been feeling really harried to me over the last weeks (I can’t remember ever feeling so tightly stretched as I have this month), so this little getaway, with my sweet girls, Bart, and Meghan’s lovely family is a huge breath of fresh air. I brought a huge stack of books to read to my girls and pretty much nothing else.
We stopped for a leisurely lunch on our way out of town, Bart and I talked for several hours while the girls snoozed in the car, and we were greater with a beautiful dinner (and, more importantly, three desserts) when we arrived.
Sometimes, you just need to get away, and take a breath. And go for a boat ride.

That sounds so great. I'm always up for a get away. We joined the Jeppesens at the cabin a bit ago and it seriously refreshed me. Though the drive to and from was less than pleasant, unfortunately.
I'm glad you had a chance for a little getaway! I had a sense that you were not quite feeling your usual self.
Have a great time! I hope you had plenty of space to rest, relax, and recharge.

enjoy your fall break – you deserve it.
That sounds amazing! Enjoy your much-needed mini vacation away!
Have a great break. I had also thought you weren't quite your usual cheerful self lately. Moving and settling into a new city is hard work in itself – hope things start to feel less stretched for you soon!
Had no idea that your October was so busy and a very low key weekend was ok. haha
