Bits and Bobs
I was on a winning streak a couple of weeks ago. In the course of a week, I won a box of Meyer lemons from Princess Nebraska’s backyard (yum), two camis from Mod Bod (oh my heavens, I love them so much; in the last ten days, I’ve probably worn them at least five times), and. . . .an immersion blender from Perry’s Plate. Seriously. I laughed.
Should you be in a cooking mood (and really, why shouldn’t you be?), here are two recipes I’ve loved lately. First, lemon cream. Oh my word, this stuff is to die for. I’ve made it twice with the aforementioned Meyer Lemons and it’s just the most delicious thing ever (caution: some hyperbole may have been used). Spreading it on muffins is an excellent way to go.
And then these Sweet Potato Tin Foil Tacos. This was one of those meals where I had low expectations and then Bart and I spent the whole mean saying “THIS IS SO GOOD.” A little guacamole and sour cream on top, and it was one of the best dinners I’ve made in ages.
Have you heard about Pinterest? I got an invite from Emily, and I am in love. I think this might finally solve my recipe organizing problems. Any of you using it? And if anyone wants an invite, I’ve got several. I won’t lie, though, the site can be reallllllly slow to load.
I’m reading The Ominvore’s Dilemma for book club and finding it so ridiculously fascinating. I read In Defense of Food a while ago and while I enjoyed that one, so far this one is much more interesting to me. Bart is a good soul to listen to me ramble on at length about it.

Ooh, I'd love an invite to Pininterest. I'm always looking to improve my organization.
As for the camping, Noelle & Phil camped with their baby maybe eight times already, all with great success. I think it'll be grand.
I'm anxious to hear how your camping trip goes. We want to go camping soon, too and I'll welcome any tips on camping with a baby. 🙂
Ooo, I want an invite. This would be much easier than emailing recipe links to myself.
I'd love a Pinterest invite!
Off to pimp your WIM post…
🙂
I also have some lemons from Princess Nebraska's backyard and that looks like a mighty fine way to use them up. 🙂 And those sweet potato tacos look AMAZING. Must try.
I'd love an invite to Pintrest too if you still have some left. I've been loving looking at others' boards. This post is a gold mine, Janssen!
I also have some lemons from Princess Nebraska's backyard so I think I must make this lemon creme! Also — those sweet potato tacos look AMAZING! Must try.
If you have any extra Pintrest invites I'd love one. I have been enjoying looking at others' boards. Looks fun.
This post is a gold mine!
Holly, I'd be happy to send you an invite, but you don't have an email address linked up to your profile. . .
I would love a pinterest invite (if you have enough!) Good luck camping. My husband's family LOVES to camp and I would rather give myself 10 paper cuts than take a baby camping but I'm pretty sure I won't have a choice this summer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Just how many Pinterest invites do you have? One more for me?
I decided that once my 2nd child learned how to escape her bath seat that it was time to put her in the big tub. A couple months later she escaped the big tub, too. Luckily I caught her by the leg before she hit the floor. Kids these days!
Camping will be much easier now than when she's starting to walk. Unsteady baby feet and total lack of logic is not a fun camping trip at all.
I've lost an entire nap to Pinterest, thanks for the invite!
Would you send me a pinterest invite? I've been intrigued by it!
Yes, you're crazy to go camping. And what a coincidence, I am reading Omnivore's Dilemma for my book group and I've already read In Defense of Food too.
If that website keeps track of all my recipes, then I'm interested too. Thanks!
You've probably run out with all the requests but I'd love an invite to pinterest.
In other news, congrats on the winning streak and I am adding that taco recipe to my menu for next week!
I'm sure you're out by now, but if by chance you have any left I'd like an invite. Those tacos look so good.
Brayden was so mobile as a roller. He'd roll all the way across the room sometimes.
Ditto what Lisa had to say. The barely walking (or even crawling) stage until about 18 months was tricky for us when we went camping. Everything before and after was great. Granted, a little less sleep was had by all, but the baby loved it.
Also, those camis, are they soft or stiff? I know many women who swear by Down East Outfitters undershirts, but I find them too stiff for layering in hot weather. How are these?
I loved "The Omnivore's Dilemma", such a fantastic book! I'm so glad you love it too!

We went camping at Stephen F Austin State Park with our first baby when she was 4 months old. Totally doable. In fact, I think it was easier to take her as an infant than when we tried later as a toddler.
I just started listening to "In Defense of Food" this week. I must admit, the narration is a little strange, but I'm interested in eating more of a whole foods diet, so the info is good. Have you read "Food Rules" yet? Thinking I might have to try that one soon as well. And bless a husband who listens to you talk about your books! I always love when my husband remembers the characters and other details that I ramble on about. So sweet.
And p.s. – great guest post on fitting in reading, you have excellent tips!
I love that you won an immersion blender. Hee.
Also! I'd love a Pinterest invite if you still have some left.
I loved Omnivore's Dilemma and have been thinking of reading In Defense of Food. I know you'll be so happy that you picked it up! He's a great writer and you learn so much while enjoying the read!
Also read In Defense of Food and am now reading The Omnivore's Dilemma. Very excited to dive further into it.
On camping, I firmly believe travel with one relatively easy baby is not only doable, but very enjoyable. See: upcoming post on travel to Africa with a 4-month old.
Let me know how the camping goes! We are really hoping to get some camping in this summer with our little guy.
My parents took us camping pretty much since we were born and everyone always had fun. Just use common sense and you'll be fine. Enjoy!
