A Versatile Blouse (and a White Plum Giveaway!)

When I did the great purge of my closet, it was immediately apparent to me that tops were the mega weak spot in my closet.
For years, it was pants. I generally owned a single pair of jeans I liked. But right now, I have a decent collection of pants I like and that fit me well and I have to keep myself from buying more.
This blouse from White Plum is exactly what I was looking for. A nice mix of neutral and fun – I love the little studs on the hem, but I like that they are subtle too – and it’s easy to dress up or down. (If you use the code JANSSEN20, you’ll get 20% off your whole order until May 7th).
White Plum isn’t new to me (I wrote a post for them last year about my secrets for visiting a new city) and I love their wide variety of cute tops, dresses. And I really like that it’s a woman-owned business, started by a mom.
They’re giving away a $75 gift certificate to their shop (I have my eye on this top – I won’t even let myself look at non-shirt items right now), and you’ll definitely have no problem finding something you love.

  1. I love a great dress (for my summer staple), but I agree that I am lacking in the blouse department. Love this top!

  2. Every year I hunt for more summer dresses. If 10 years ago you would have told me I prefer to wear dresses to anything else, I would have laughed in your face. (not really, that's kind of rude)

I love the blouse. I always feel that blouses that are that blouse-y make me look bigger than I am, but maybe I'll try again this summer.

  3. I have this one blue and white sleeveless top with a scoop neck and a couple henley buttons that I need more like it this summer. I wore it non stop last summer because it looks great with jeans or shorts or a skirt. I even wear it to work with a brightly colored cardigan.

  4. I keep buying jeans, which is a shame because I can't wear them to work. What I really need to focus on is tops!

  5. Cute top! Lately I've gotten into comfy knit skirts and t-shirts or tanks for summer. And I finally found some long shorts that don't make me look stumpy…of course, it'll be next summer before I fit into them again (having a baby in a few weeks so…my summer wardrobe is going to be all about loose and/or stretchy this year). 🙂

  6. I love that top….I am due to have a baby in three weeks so I am assuming I could use looser fitting summer tops this year 🙂

  7. white plum is my absolute favorite! I wasn't aware it was a woman-owned business–how cool! love that top on you

  8. My staple this summer is going to be stretchy pencil skirts and t shirts. I even bought the one you wore from Avenlie on one of your posts. So cute.

  9. I have a tops problem, too, in that I have t-shirts and then good shirts for work, but nothing in the middle. I'm afraid of blousy ones, though; can you wash them? I haven't put a lot of effort/research into this yet, clearly. 🙂 But I have put an embargo on t-shirt purchases, even though I looove knits.

  10. Since I'm 9 weeks pregnant, I fully anticipate my summer staple being maxi dresses. They look fabulous without any work and are SO comfortable!

  11. I love breezy tops for summer — especially that can be mixed and matched to wear to work or just a low-key day at home.

  12. I feel you on the needing more tops problem. My problem is I'm realizing my whole wardrobe needs to be updated (25 and finally finding my style..)

  13. I am late jumping on the maxi bandwagon, but I love them and can't imagine summer without them!

  14. This summer I will be 8+ months pregnant in Las Vegas (what were we thinking?) and so my summer staples include breezy maxi dresses and comfy cute sandals.

  15. I am totally in the "in need of tops" club. I used to think finding jeans was hard but ugh, tops. Too sheer, too low cut, I'm not a huge fan of the high-low (I think it looks weird on me, maybe because I'm short?), too expensive, would ruin easily in the wash. Frustrating! I went out shopping with my mom this past weekend and told myself I needed tops and only tops. I got a maxi dress, cropped pants, jean capris, two sweat pants and yoga pants. Why?!!?!??!
My favorite Summer staples are dresses by the way. =]

  16. My summer staples are tank tops and cut off shorts (jorts?) and flip flops. And a good pair of aviator sunglasses! I am also in need of tops this year.

  17. I have been on the hunt for great tops too! I just discovered White Plum through Merrick's blog! I've pinned a lot of style inspiration but have yet to buy!

My staple this summer is a dark wash pair of capris from Loft. I love them because I can dress them up with a wedge and pretty blouse or go casual and wear them with a tee and flip-flops.

  18. You look so classy. I'm thinking a gray t-shirt from Everlane is going to be my summer staple. I'm wearing it a lot.

  19. My favorite summer staples are: decent length shorts, cute sandals (but not flip flops), and shirts that are thin, yet not see through. I lived in Texas, and as you know, you don't want to add extra layers when you don't have to!

  20. Love this top. So, so interesting.

I always love my scarves and leather jacket for transition times. Perfect layering items that can be taken off and stashed in a purse or draped over my arm when it gets too warm in the afternoon, but right there to the rescue when I catch a shiver.

  21. Versatile sandals and light sweaters to go over anything in the cool evenings!

  22. My summer staples usually involve a solid colored t-shirt and a maxi skirt/pair of shorts…usually beloved cut-off jorts ;)…I could probably branch out this year!

  23. My summer staple is usually a pair of shorts or jeans that I can pair with different tops and sandals.

  24. I love dresses! mostly short ones and A-line. or the fit and flare type that is popular right now. I need my dresses~! but they must go with sandals!

  25. I love sundresses. One piece, no need to look for what "matches" or whatever, just throw it on and go.

  26. You are very pretty, but with your fair skin, I think you look better in colors, not white. The blouse does look very comfortable, though.

  27. I've always been a little self-conscious about my legs, but now that I'm a runner, I love shorts. There are so many colors and patterns out now!

  28. Love dresses! And need more of them….but not before I get this baby weight off. Love this top though!

  29. I am just in need of non-t-shirt summer shirts. This happens every summer because I usually just buy a few t-shirts from Old Navy and then they are worn out by the end of the summer, so I have to buy more.

  30. My summer staples are lots of maxi dresses, a couple pairs of boyfriend jeans, some cute tees or flowy blouses & cute sandals!

  31. Sandals! Wedges, flats, whatever – just open and airy. And a pedicure to go with all those open-toed shoes!

  32. I found some really comfy maxi-dresses with sleeves that I'm really excited to wear this summer.

  33. In the summers I wear shorts and sandals. Pretty much all the time. It's hot here in Arizona!

  34. One or two cheap pairs of Target sandals. I wear them to death and they usually last up to three summers- for $12 each, I don't mind having a trendy item. 🙂

  35. Summer staples are denim shorts! can't wait for the weather to warm up 🙂

Also… *gasp* you're wearing lipstick!! you look beautiful 🙂

  36. Summer staple? Flat strappy sandals. Goes with summer dresses, shorts, skirts, capris, linen pants and really anything!

  37. I love dresses in the summer! All day, every day. Why would I wear pants if I don't have to?

  38. In the summer I'm living in simple v-necks and shorts! When I'm not in my swimsuit of course haha

  39. My Jack Rogers sandals-they go with everything! And it doesn't hurt that they make me feel a bit Jackie O too 🙂

  40. I favorite summer staple is white, black and grey tee shirts. I can be comfortable around the house in them or if I need to run errands I can throw on a statement necklace or scarf and look more together.

  41. Simple stretchy cotton tops that are better than plain tshirts, but let me play with the kids. I just need some more cute options for when I don't want to just look like a mom!

  42. Love it! Breezy white shirts are definitely a summer staple for me, along with flip flops and capris.
