What We Gave Star for Her 9th Birthday
Star turned 9 this week!
Bart and I were just talking about how her birth is the most vivid to both of us of any of our kids (and for good reason – her delivery was in the middle of snowstorm, happened so fast that she was born in triage and without an epidural, and she was over ten pounds!).
I remember when she was born, my mom saying, “Every mom deserves a third child” and that is so true of Star – she is an absolute delight and so sweet and fun and always up for a snuggle or a game.
Last week, we went skiing and everyone else was ready to be be done, but Star really wanted to do one more black diamond run and so the two of us went together, which I don’t think we’d ever done. It was a fun little time just the two of us on the lift and then cruising down the mountain.
We celebrated her birthday with a peach cobbler cheesecake with family friends and then a bowling birthday party with a bunch of her friends the next day.
And, of course, some presents!
Here’s what Star got for her 9th birthday!
9 year old girl gifts
INSTAX MINI CAMERA
This was a huge hit – this purple camera that prints photos immediately comes with film, a little photo album and a little magnetic photo display. I ordered mine on QVC when it was on sale a few weeks before her birthday, but Amazon now has it at the same price as QVC’s deal was. (I also ordered her a few more packs of film. This was the best deal I found).
WEAVING KIT
Star has been doing some weaving at school and really loving it, so one of the things on her birthday wish list was a weaving kit. Wish granted!
AIR DRY CLAY
We’d given Star clay for Christmas and she’d loved it so much that she asked for more for her birthday – she and Tally spend hours in their room working on clay creations and they’ve been burning through it!
CLAY TOOLS
When Ella saw that we were getting Star clay, she immediately knew she wanted to get her a collection of clay tools. Star was delighted!
PASTEL RUBIX CUBE
Star has gotten very into Rubix cubes and really wanted one of her own, so Ani looked at lots of options on Amazon and picked this one which is very cute (and doesn’t have stickers, so they won’t peel off!).
PLAY-DOH KITCHEN CREATIONS DRIZZLY ICE CREAM SET
This was Tally’s pick and it as a massive success. The day after Star’s birthday all four girls spent hours playing with it together (Ella, who is 13, said “I forgot how soothing it is to play with play-doh!”). Definitely a winner gift.
TULIP SWEATSHIRT
This was Star’s birthday gift from my parents and it perfectly fits Star – cozy and warm and also happy and springy. She wore it to her birthday party and it is absolutely darling.
What a delight to celebrate this beloved girl!
“Every mom deserves a third child” 🥺 Thinking about my own beloved third child, who is 2.5 – they really are special!
