What I’m Going to Read: Round 12
The big winner this month was Life of a Doctor’s Wife who suggested The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I’d read the book at the end of last year when Shelly kindly sent me a copy (which I read on the way home to two weeks of an empty house and was pretty sure I’d never sleep again because, wow, was that book intense). Since I’ve already read that book (I feel AWESOME when I get to email the winner saying, “I’ve actually already read this”), she suggested Little Bee by Chris Cleve as a replacement. I’ve heard lots of good things about this book, so I’m excited.
Other suggestions (check out the rabid support for Cutting for Stone. Holy cow!):

- Little Bee by Chris Cleave (Kate)

- The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
- Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson
Incidentally, all four of those are books I loved. A lot.
Anyway, this was a great month for recommendations. Maybe with school out I can get through more than just Little Bee? We shall see. . .
Yay! It was a fantastic book (though hard to read – emotionally – at times).
I am so glad that you picked this instead of Little Face. I almost emailed you saying "don't read Little Face until your baby is ten years old!" but then I figured you could handle it, if you read Girl with a Dragon Tattoo. 🙂 But am still relieved.
Looking forward to your review!
Haha, the support is that rabid for a reason!! 🙂 It's far and away one of the best books I've ever read.
Yay for so many votes for Cutting for Stone! That's the one I've been voting for for months; I'm glad that others put a vote in since I skipped this month. Seriously, pick it up now; down wait for it to win the Tell Me What to Read contest.
We're halfway through the year and it's still one of my favorite – if THE favorite – book I've read this year.
I love these lists! It's so great to be able to add to my library list!
Little Bee is a great book. Like the doctor's wife said…emotionally difficult, but so beautifully written. I can't wait to hear what you think about it!
I just finished The Tennis Partner by Verghese and… honestly I wouldn't have finished it (or just would have skipped to the end to find out what happens) if it wasn't for book club. Too many long and detailed descriptions of tennis for my liking. Maybe I'll give Cutting for Stone a try though? Verghese certainly is a brilliant man though. Doctor AND accomplished author. I'd be happy to be one or the other.
What did you think about The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo? I wanted to read it when it first came out, but didn't get around to it, and now that I've seen it's a "The Girl Who…" type series, I find my interest diminished for some reason. Part of me would still like to read at least the first one though.
