4 Books I’m Currently Reading (+ My Team’s Picks)

We just got back from a family trip to Hawaii and it included a lot of reading on the beach and by the pool (dream trip!).

Here’s what I’m reading right now:

When You Loved Me by Beatriz Williams
Someone told me this was a great mystery for fall and since I’ve never read a book by this author (even though she’s super beloved!), I downloaded it and started it on the beach – I can’t wait to read more!

Which Witch? by Eva Ibbotson
This is the Halloween read-aloud I’m doing with my kids this year. It’s a fun fast read although definitely a little grosser than I normally go for (lots of eyeballs and warts). And it says for fans of Harry Potter on the cover of my copy and I don’t get Harry Potter vibes at all from this one.

All the Time in the World by Cara Bastone
I’ve loved some of her other books and when I saw this graphic audiobook included with my Audible subscription, I couldn’t download it fast enough. I listened to a lot of it on the plane ride home and it’s just so fun with sound effects, multiple narrators, and a fun time travel story.

The Art of Spending Money by Morgan Housel
I have a love for personal finance books AND have been working on my money scarcity mindset for the past couple of years – so I was excited to dive into this one. I don’t know that it’s anything groundbreaking, but it’s been just the right book at the right time for me and I’m loving reading a few chapters every night before bed.

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Murder by Ally Carter
I read The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year in 2024 and it was one of my favorite audiobooks that year, so I was thrilled to see she came out with another one! Her books are funny and always have terrific banter. (I also LOVED the audiobook of her romance mystery The Blonde Identity!).

And here’s what my team is reading!

Homemaking with Babs: Tips and Tricks for Making a House a Home by Barbara Costello
I’m a big fan of Babs and her content feels like your grandma teaching you everything school never did. As a type-A person who loves a good checklist, and who’s just plain nosey about how other people run their homes, I couldn’t resist this book. It’s organized by season (spring, summer, fall, and winter), with cleaning and maintenance tasks plus seasonal decor and hosting ideas for each. It’s also packed with cleaning recipes, a 15-minute cleaning checklist, and more. I definitely will be adding a few things from this book to my rotation to make my life easier!

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
My neighborhood book club is reading Jane Eyre this month, and since I’ve never read it before, I was excited for the extra motivation to finally tackle this classic. It’s been on my reading list for ages! I love how often Jane Eyre is referenced in Emma M. Lion, and I felt like I was missing some of the inside jokes without having read the original. I’m a little over halfway through and thoroughly enjoying it so far! The novel follows Jane, an orphan who overcomes a difficult childhood to become a governess at Thornfield Hall, where she falls in love with the mysterious Mr. Rochester.

the road to tender hearts book cover

The Road to Tender Hearts by Annie Hartnett
I am quite taken by this book so far and am finding every minute I can to listen to it. PJ is a lot of things – a former mailman, a lottery winner, a father to two daughters (one who has passed away), an ex-husband, best friends with his ex-wife’s boyfriend, and now a guardian to two orphaned children. PJ, the two kids, and his grown daughter set off on a trip across America to try and find his high school sweetheart and the orphan girl’s supposed real father. This book has humor, hardship, a lot of funny adventures, and I am into it.
