I’m feeling lucky that I live in Texas where I can do craft projects outdoors in November because the idea of all this glitter on the INSIDE of my house makes me a little worried.
I saw this reindeer glitter art on Pinterest
a couple of months ago and really liked the idea but I wanted something
with a little more color to it and I also wanted to make sure I wasn’t going
to end up with glitter falling off of it for the rest of the holiday
season (enter Mod Podge to seal the whole thing up like an extremely well-wrapped Christmas present).
And I was really really happy with how it turned out. Easy, a little colorful, and no mess on my carpet inside.
Supplies needed:
- Canvas (I used a 12×12)
- Glitter (I used a really chunky gold)
- Mod Podge
- Paint brush
- Paint
- Stencils (I used these two sets)
- ModPodge roller
First, you’ll need an outline. If you have artistic talent, you could freehand it on your canvas with a pencil. Or, if you are completely handicapped in the art department like me, you can print out a template and trace it on.
Then, use a paintbrush to fill in the outline with Mod Podge and pour a ridiculous amount of glitter over the whole thing.
Pray that it isn’t windy on your balcony.
Also, do this on top of a piece of paper or newsprint or something. Because, you want somewhere to dump the excess glitter onto and then easily pour back into your glitter container.
After one round, I added a little Mod Podge to the parts that weren’t as glittery as I wanted and repeated the process.
When the glitter was nice and dry, I stenciled on my letters with some red paint. Before the writing at the bottom, I felt like the whole thing was a little on the bland side. With the red letters, I liked it 10000x better.
And when THAT was dry, I used this handy little roller to seal the whole thing with the Mod Podge to keep all the glitter permanently on the canvas. And give it a nice little shine.
Done and done. Easy peasy.
Time to make everyone I know look at it when they come to my house. What lucky friends I have.

Pretty. I like the red & gold together.

That looks great! Did the glitter get all over the canvas at all when you used the Mod Podge roller to go over the glitter?

I painted the non-glitter part first and then did the glittery part second. I did have to scrape a few pieces off the main part with a toothpick, but pretty smooth overall.

Working with glitter is always fun! I had glitter as part of a Halloween costume two years ago and I still sometimes find glitter around (and you know I clean.) It's a friendly reminder ;p
