Weekend Book Deals for August

It’s our last weekend of summer before school starts and we’re trying to soak up all the sun and fun before we move to earlier bedtimes and a more structured schedule.

I’m hoping to fit in a little reading this weekend too and there are some GREAT books on sale right now!

Weekend Book Deals for August

First Phone: A Child’s Guide to Digital Responsibility, Safety, and Etiquette by Catherine Pearlman
In today’s digital age, it seems inevitable our children will have access to smart phones (whether it’s their own or their friends’). This relatable book is geared for kids (8-12) and brings up how to handle privacy, boundaries, safety, and self-care, while using smart devices.

The Davenports by Krystal Marquis
The year is 1910 and the Davenport family is one of the few Black families at the time with great wealth in the US, having made their fortune in the automobile industry. The eldest daughter is ready to wed, the youngest daughter just wants to fix cars (very unladylike), and their maid dreams of opening her own business (and is secretly madly in love with the Davenport brother). This historical fiction book is fascinating and lots of fun, plus it’s based on the real-life Patterson family.

Home Front by Kristin Hannah
I’m a pretty big Kristin Hannah fan, but I’ve only read her historical fiction novels. Military couple Michael and Jolene’s relationship has been on the rocks. But when one of them is deployed, they are forced to confront their problems while protecting the security of their family.

Crazy Horse and Custer by S. D. NelsonCrazy Horse and Custer: Born Enemies by S. D. Nelson
I picked this up at the library this fall but didn’t get to it before it was due back. When the audiobook is this great of a deal, that’s clearly a sign that it’s time to listen to it instead!

Efrén Divided by Ernesto CisnerosEfrén Divided by Ernesto Cisneros
American-born Efrén Nava and his younger siblings live with their Amá and Apá and while their life includes a lot of hard work, it’s also loving and happy. But everything falls apart when his Amá is deported to Mexico and it falls on Efrén to take care of his siblings and attempt to reunite his family. This was an Everyday Reading Book Club book last summer and I loved it!

Ogre Enchanted by Gail Carson LevineOgre Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine
Ella Enchanted might be one of my top five all-time favorite books. This companion book came out some 20 years after Ella Enchanted debuted, and  I can’t believe I haven’t read it yet!
