Reevaluating My Life Goals
For one of my classes (Public Libraries, in case you’re keeping fastidious tabs on my life, which I assume you are), we had to do an hour long oral history interview with an about-to-retire or retired public librarian (more about that project here for the one person who cares).
Our group of four found a recently retired librarian and went to visit her at her home on Saturday, where we conducted and recorded the interview.
She was a really cool lady and we had a great time with her. One of the projects she works on is reviewing books for various publications and serving on some award committees. Because of this she receives tons and tons of books from publishers and is always trying to donate them to keep them from taking over her house.
She pulled out a huge cardboard box (I could have fit inside), with a bunch of young adult books in it and told us to help ourselves.
I left with six brand-new hardcover, just-released books.
My new goal in life is to be the lady who passes out gorgeous free books to everyone who stops by my house.
I met my wife while she was starting her masters in library science. She never finished but switched to elem ed.
Anyway, did the librarian tell you to be quiet or shush you?

There sure are worse goals in life. LOL Anyway, how cool was that – to meet a nice person and to get free books from her?!
Drool.
I LOVE THAT! I hope you become that lady someday — it’s totally a worthwhile and attainable goal!
You can do it! Yes you can! Elmo told me to tell you that.
since that is your goal, then MY goal is to know where you live so that i can stop by and have you give me gorgeous books.
And, my new life goal is to be your next door neighbor.
I have become THAT lady…or I shall BECOME that lady if you ever visit my library! I’m loving Hunger Games. Did I get that recommend from you? My students tell me that Stephanie Meyer is touting it also on her website. Is anybody specializing in oldie goldie YA stuff that’s still worth reading???
That sounds like a worthy goal. We’re having a couple of parties over the holidays that kids will be attending, and I plan to strategically locate boxes of books for those.
Off the subject. Do you plan to only live in cities that rhyme? Austin…Boston…
oh I would love to be that lady too!
Nice! There are a few books I wouldn’t mind getting for free right now.
That is awesome. I wouldn’t mind being that lady either.
