Go Bananas
Those of you who are LDS or are familiar with the LDS culture may know about Girls Camp (for those of you who don’t, its basically what it sounds like – a week long camp for girls 12-17).
I myself went for five years when I was growing up in Las Vegas and I loved it. A lot. I like to camp in general and to go with all your friends for a week every summer is pretty much the most thrilling thing ever.
On Sunday night, I got asked to be the leader over the 30 or so thirteen year old girls for Girls Camp this summer.
And I am so so so excited. Bring on the tents, the sunburn, and the s’mores. I’m in.
You are a glutton for punishment. 🙂 (I’m not LDS, but many of my friends and cousins were.) I did go to 4-H camp several summers, tho. Such fond memories!
How fun! I as well loved girls camp. I think I have pictures of you from camp, years ago.
Lucky!! I LOVED girls camp! Girls camp director is my dream calling!
JANSSEN!!! I am SOOOOOO excited for you! This summer will be my eighth year in a row as a leader at YW camp. My first four years, I was the 1st Level leader (12 year olds) and the last four years I’ve been over the YCLs. You are going to love it and the girls are going to love YOU! We just picked our theme for this year — Olympics. We still have a lot to figure out but it’s going to be so fun.
That sounds so awesome! I consider you very lucky indeed. Please consult me on your ideas for snacks and whatnots. (Erm, maybe not consult, but inform!)
shake your bushy tail! yaaaouza! how fun! Have a great time! I looooove girls camp! Ahh the memories- bring nail polish- pedicures at girls camp are a must!
How exciting! I was so excited to get to go when I was a YW leader and then I moved before camp… 🙁 Have fun!!!
It’s a good thing there’s people like you in the world because this would be the kiss of death for me!
Oooo . . . I always wanted this calling. You know that the girls don’t really camp anymore, right? At least anywhere I’ve been in the last several years it is just kind of more like a spiritual retreat. Maybe you will bring back the love.
I had mixed feelings about girls’ camp. I loved it some years, and hated it others. The thing that made it great during the times I loved it was having a great leader (not that the others didn’t try–just sometimes there was somebody exceptional). I am glad you’ll make these girls love it. Yahoo!
How exciting! I tried explaining how wonderful Girl’s Camp is to Lewis, but it’s just one of those things that you have to experience to know how great it is! You’ll do great!
Woohoo! You’ll do a great job!
Congrats – glad you are excited! (Somehow I got behind in reading blogs!) This will be my 4th year going from the Stake (I’m in the stake YW Presidency, in case you didn’t know.) It’s pretty cushy – heated rooms, washer and dryer, showers right off our rooms, right next to the kitchen. I don’t think I could handle “roughing it” with a regular ward calling! JK – even the wards have it pretty nice, the church has a terrific facility in the Heber City area.
Oh I am jealous — That would be so fun!!
wait – you have 30 girls in your ward?! holy cow!
wow — looks like everyone has a better attitude about it than i did when I got that calling. Don’t get me wrong, I had a great time while I was there, but there was much weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth beforehand.
