2024 Summer Reading Guide: Terrific Non-Fiction
I love non-fiction but I still want it to be just as engaging as any novel. These will do just that!
Stolen Focus: Why You Can’t Pay Attention – and How to Think Deeply Again by Johann Hari
I was absolutely blown away after reading this one and couldn’t stop talking about it to anyone who would listen. This non-fiction book explores the ways that we are losing our ability to focus, both as adults and as children. And in turn, that affects how we act, make decisions, interact with others and so much more. It gives some advice on how to reclaim your focus and attention and I loved every minute of it!
Rich AF: The Winning Money Mindset That Will Change Your Life by Vivian TuThis is a fantastic personal finance book! I’m always getting asked for book recommendations for people who want to understand their finances and investing better and this is my new go-to suggestion that makes money feel fun, interesting and accessible.
The Anthropocene Reviewed by John GreenYou may know John Green from his wildly popular YA books like The Fault in Our Stars but this adult non-fiction title is totally different as Green reflects on the human experience and reviews many aspects of our existence including anything from teddy bears, Kentucky bluegrass, whispering, Diet Dr. Pepper, sunsets, and so much more, giving them star ratings as if it is Yelp. I think it’s useful to go into this one knowing a little about John Green and his style, so if you’ve read one of his fiction books or watched him on Instagram, you’ll probably enjoy it more!
The Mona Lisa Vanishes by Nicholas Day
This felt like the perfect book to read before our family trip to Paris. It made the visit to the Louvre more fun (not only does it talk about the theft of the Mona Lisa but also about the painting of it, Leonardo da Vinci, and other famous artists). I had no idea about a lot of this history and it’s fast paced and well done! The audio is also really great and only about four hours long. It’s fun for adults and kids alike!
