Earlier this week, I was on a work call and the woman I was chatting with mentioned listening to audiobooks and I LITERALLY COULD NOT HELP MYSELF.

I jumped in with “Have you listened to The Favorites yet??”

(She hadn’t but she promised she would add it to her TBR).

This audiobook was the most terrific way to kick off my year of listening but now I’m worried nothing else will hold up to it this year - I was completely absorbed by this one!

But WHY is reading a book with short chapters so much more gratifying?

When I’m reading aloud to my kids, I’d MUCH rather read 5 short chapters than 1 long chapter that’s the same length!

For months, my DMs have been full of messages asking for kid books with short chapters and today I have a huge list!

Finding an author or series that my teenager loves feels like hitting the jackpot!

I snagged her a few Jordan Sonnenblick books on sale a while ago and during Christmas break she blew through all the ones I’d bought her and then grabbed all of the ones our library had!

I read a half dozen or so of his books back a decade or more ago and absolutely loved them. They’re funny, sweet, deal with hard topics (like childhood cancer or dementia or sports injuries) with a light touch, and you even get a little romance thrown in for good measure.

I remember laughing AND crying over these books and I love seeing my daughter enjoy them just as much!

This is a library trick I find myself using every night before we leave for a trip and I don’t have time to wait in a weeks (or months!) long hold line for books to read or listen to on our trip!
