I’ve loved historical fiction books my whole life – it’s such an engaging way to learn about a different time period and take a trip back in time without leaving your living room couch!
The Davenports by Krystal Marquis
The year is 1910 and the Davenport family is one of the few Black families at the time with great wealth in the US, having made their fortune in the automobile industry. The eldest daughter is ready to wed, the youngest daughter just wants to fix cars (very unladylike), and their maid dreams of opening her own business (and is secretly madly in love with the Davenport brother). This historical fiction book is fascinating and lots of fun, plus it’s based on the real-life Patterson family.
Everyone Brave is Forgiven by Chris Cleave
The Passion of Dolssa by Julie Berry
The year is 1241 in Provence, France and the town is still recovering from The Crusades. When a tavern matchmaker finds Dolssa, a young woman with healing gifts, near death by the river, she is hidden and nursed back to health. All the while, Dolssa is being hunted by an obsessed friar who is determined to burn her for being a heretic.
Carrie Soto Is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Carrie Soto is the best tennis star tennis has ever seen. She’s been retired for six years and now someone young and up-and-coming is gunning for her title. Carrie Soto is not about to let that happen, so she comes out of retirement, asks her dad to coach her again, and she is going to do everything in her power to try and keep that title (even though being a 35 year old tennis star is not the same as being a tennis star in your twenties).
