My dad just called me. He is at the Austin airport during a layover right now, on his way to Orlando for the weekend (to work, lest you think he’s just taking off for a beach vacation alone or something). It was great to talk to him for a few minutes, but sad to know he was so close and yet I didn’t get to see him. I forgot to tell him that I furthered the cause of good smiles for him by warning my friend to never ever ever let her dentist take out her permanent retainer bar. He would have been pleased.
We’re going back to Vegas to visit in a few weeks. I haven’t been in Vegas since Christmas, and I can’t wait to be back. I love Texas. I love Utah. I love practically every other city I’ve ever visited. But I think I will always love Las Vegas the most. It’s my city. It’s where I grew up. It’s where my parents live. And it’s where you can always get an In-n-Out burger (can I get a “hallelujah!”?)
It will be a little strange also to go home because my youngest sister will have left for college a week before we come down. When we moved to that house, I still had four months left before I went to college. All of us lived there. Now, it’ll be just my parents and my little brother. And this Christmas, we won’t be coming down to Las Vegas until a few days after Christmas (my first Christmas not with my family. . .eeek). My sister and her husband aren’t coming down at all. It will be a strange Christmas.
(Oh, and did I mention that Bart brought home a box of chocolate covered caramels last night? That were delicious? No? Well, he did. And they were.)

I weigh in today and In ‘n’ Out would be just the right thing to end my day with (after I get weighed). So sad we don’t have one here. So sad I didn’t think to get one when I was in Phoenix. I think I might cry.

Here here! Hallelujah for In-N-Out! Just the thought of an animal style cheeseburger is almost more than I can bear…

I know what you mean, North Carolina is always my home and I haven’t been there since my wedding in November. My husband and I celebrated our first Christmas in Provo all alone it was kinda fun but I missed my family. It was nice though, because I could say what I really thought of the gifts other people gave me =)

Bart brought you a treat? Does he give lessons, because if he does sign up Blaine!

I’m so glad to hear that you’ll be here for Christmas. We look forward to doing something Christmas-y together. Not sleding though. Caroling?

so what you’re saying is that I should never, ever take out that little metal bar? EVER? I get conflicting advice from my dentist, actually.
Also, I’ve NEVER had an In-N-Out burger, can you believe that?!? I so need to do that.

janet – I think lots of dentists are all gung-ho about getting them taken off. My dad, who is a dentist, had another guy take his out when he was in dental school. And then his teeth started to move and he had to have braces again when I was in high school. So, he’s all about leaving it in because it’ll keep your teeth from moving too much ever. Without a retainer of some sort, your teeth are almost guaranteed to move.

I love Vegas too, you’re so lucky to have family there to vist! Have a great trip 🙂

Hi–I found your blog through Tiny Kingdom, and just wanted to say this will be the first year I don’t spend Christmas day with my family too. My husband and I will be in my hometown the few days before Christmas, but have to leave on Christmas eve to come back to spend time with his family. Eek is right!
(Also, my dentist told me I have to keep my permanent retainer bar as well.)

Despite my permanent retainer bar on the bottom, my teeth have already moved! I have another appointment in September, and boy howdy am I upset about the crookedness of those teeth. Can’t I just have a removable retainer like on the top?

Are you going to be in LV for Christmas day?

What’s an In-N-Out burger?
Janssen says
Aunt Miriam. . . next time you go down to Las Vegas, you MUST have an In-n-Out burger. They only have them in Arizona, Nevada, and California, but they are the best hamburgers I’ve ever had. . . .mmmmmmm. Sounds so delicious right now.
