Bart asked a few weeks ago what the first thing I’m going to do when I’m not pregnant is.
The answer is sleep on my stomach.
The thought almost brings a tear to my eye.
Also, I mentioned to Ella the other day that eventually she and the baby sister will be sharing a room. And Ella got very concerned and said, “No, this is my room. Baby sister can sleep in the bathroom.”
As the oldest child myself, I have a special little bit of empathy in my heart for Ella, who will spend her life as the oldest child. I’m treasuring these last weeks of it just being the two of us.

I feel you on the stomach sleeping. I was just thinking about that last night. I am not pregnant, but I was thinking I should soak up some tummy time before we have another baby.
Also, as an oldest child I totally empathize with Ella.

As a stomach sleeper myself, I can totally empathize. I literally switch back to my stomach while I'm still in the hospital. Good luck!

I don't have any kids yet, but I don't know how I'm going to survive being pregnant when the time comes. I love, love, love sleeping on my stomach!
Sherry says
The idea of sleeping on my stomach is rather appealing, except that it's still not happening for me. Darn nursing.

How funny! When I was pregnant, that is the exact same thing I would tell people. I never really realized it until I couldn't do it.
Poor Ella, maybe she'll change her mind about the bathroom when she see's how adorable and helpless the baby is 🙂
Janet says
You look wonderful!
And yeah..sleeping. I can't wait to sleep again, in any position. Oh wait, they say you don't get much sleep with a newborn. I guess I look forward to sleeping again in about 2 years?

Aw you are absolutely glowing!
When my husband's cousin was pregnant we all went to the beach and guess what she did??? She dug a really deep hole and laid on her belly, with her belly in the hole. It was pretty funny! =]

I share your sentiments about being the eldest. Even when I ask my oldest daughter to help out or be a big girl because she's the oldest, I feel a pang of guilt. Being oldest does have it's perks though, and within a few weeks, I am sure Ella will be mothering her little sister like a professional. 🙂
Heather says
I love sleeping on my stomach. It's the best. But was also hard for me in the early days of nursing. What I never expected about having my second baby was mourning the loss of a one-and-only relationship with my firstborn. You still love them and dote over them, but once another baby comes, it truly is never the same.
JoLee says
This is so true, and it caught be completely off guard.

I about died when I read Ella's response. I'm an oldest, too…woe is us.
Also, I was the irresponsible one who still slept halfway on my stomach while pregnant. Basically half on my side, but my hip facing down, if that makes sense. I agree with Heather that it's really the early nursing that gets me – OW. Curses to back sleeping.

I love Ella's comment about the baby sleeping in the bathroom. My 3-year-old talks about Beckett's room, Felix's room, and Daddy's room. When I asked him where Mommy's room is he said, "Maybe there" and pointed to the bathroom.

Our oldest daughter said her new brother could sleep in the basement when he arrived! Your belly button is peeking out a little there!

I sleep on my stomach every night in honor of all pregnant women. I missed it so much and there is not a night that goes by that I don't acknowledge how wonderful it is. I feel your pain/excitement.
Emily says
I remember wanting to sleep on my stomach so much, it killed me. Or just wanting to sprawl out on the bed and read while lying on my stomach. It'll come, and then you won't get to sleep near as much as you'd like 🙂
Elsha says
You are adorable. That dress is adorable. And I am grateful every pregnancy that I'm naturally a side sleeper. I can't imagine changing my sleep position for 9 months.
kimmie says
When I was pregnant, all I wanted to do was sleep on my back. Every single position was SO uncomfortable and achey, except for lying flat on my back, it was just PURE BLISS. But of course, if I laid on my back, I would freak out about cutting off circulation to the baby 🙁
And that's so funny that Ella thinks the baby should sleep in the bathroom! No kids should ever sleep there. 🙁
Jenny says
I'm a stomach sleeper too… I can relate.
I will think of you and appreciate in a deeper way my ability to sleep preferentially these next few weeks.
I love the metamorphosis of adding children to an existing family… Ella will hardly remember life without her new sibling before you can imagine it.

That was my answer too. I can still vividly remember the first night postpartum of sleeping on my stomach, after both pregnancies. It was glorious.
