There are more things to tell about my birthday (fabulous dinner! new purse! great skirt! fondue party!), but I’m getting a little tired of talking about my birthday. Also, I’ve come down with a killer cold. So, let’s avoid both of those topics.
Instead, I’ll tell you about the two best boxes that arrived last week from my mom.
When I was in Vegas, I went through my parents’ bookshelves and boxed up all the books that belonged to me. I hadn’t expected to take home tons, but suddenly we were at the post office, shipping 75 pounds of books to my house (thanks, Mom, for covering those rather outrageous postage costs).
I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to have all of my books again. I unpacked them all on Friday night and just flipped through them, thinking about how much I love each of them. I’m absolutely delighted to have the full set of Laura Ingalls Wilder books (purchased from the Waunakee Library in Wisconsin), my collection of Ann Rinaldi books, my much-loved Emily of New Moon series, the matching set of Louisa May Alcott books, and a hoard of other miscellaneous books, all made precious by the fact that they are mine, the original versions I read for the first time.
It feels wonderful.

I probably didn’t tell you that when I last went home I expected to return with a small stack of my most-read and best-loved books. Sadly, though, my parents sold all my books in a garage sale. And what they didn’t sell they took who knows where. Seriously, it was a sad day. I’m glad your parents saved yours for you. 🙂

I don’t think my mom intends to let me have all my books back. She wants to keep them for her future grandchildren so they’ll like coming to visit her. (It worked for my grandma. We loved going to her house because of 1) books 2) Legos 3) computer games.)
I’ve already started a list of books I want to get for my future kids–or at least books that they have to be introduced to at the library! I totally look forward to that.

Sorry you have a cold! I have a pretty bad one too. (Almost bad enough to use a sick day for. 🙂 How exciting about your books! We’ll be doing the same thing at my house this Christmas!

How wonderful to have your books around again! My mom kept my old books as well so I have been reading them to our little boy.
Did you grow up in Las Vegas? That is where I am from – went to Bonanza High School. We were just down there visiting my family.
Feel better soon!
