Blah, Blah, Blah

August 13, 2007

Right. . . Sunday again. This week has flown by. And I shall tell you why. And then you may, if you must, claw your eyes out with boredom.

I’ve started going to the gym with Bart in the morning which hasn’t killed me yet. It makes it much easier to go every day because I rarely have social engagements in the morning, so nothing gets in the way. One strange side-effect of going in the morning is that as soon as I’ve gone, I feel like the day is taken care of. It’s a weird feeling on Tuesday morning at 7:00 a.m. to think the week is already almost half over. And then realize basically only one day is down.

We’re only two episodes from the end of 24 and it’s so good. Seriously, if you haven’t watched 24, you are missing out; Kiefer Sutherland will change your life. Also, take over your life, because you will find yourself thinking about Jack Bauer all the time. You may also find yourself whispering in a growly voice to your husband: “There is no TIME!” and “Just do it, Tony.” Fortunately, we are the current possessors of season 3, 4, and 5, thanks to Bart’s boss.

I also am ALMOST done with my grad school application, which is a big relief. Only one lousy little statement of purpose stands between me and freedom (freedom which will be ripped away from me, should I actually get in). Of course, I will be thrilled beyond measure should that letter saying “you’re in! Pay tuition!” arrive in the mail.

And then there has been church stuff; we had a baby shower/dinner out dealy on Thursday night and then a picnic/swim party on Friday night. It was good fun, except that being in a pool makes me cold, always. I am at a loss as to why they would serve SNOW CONES at this party. Hello! Lips are blue! Why did someone not suggest renting a hot chocolate machine instead? (Bart requests I point out that I drank half of his melty sour grape snow cone on the drive home, but I would like to remind him that by this time I was dry and sitting in a car that had been heated by the gentle (ha!) Texas sun and humidity for three hours).

Last night we went to Brian and Ralphie’s house and watched “Premonition” which was a shockingly terrible movie. The ending was just terrible. Then, we watched the alternate ending; it was worse. As Brian said, “I didn’t think there could have been a worse ending. I have been proved wrong.” Also, a head rolling out of dropped coffin is usually a COMEDY technique, not something used in a supposedly “smart-thriller.”

And I finally got my hands on a copy of “Eclipse.” So, there’s that.

I’m jealous – I ordered Eclipse and HP 7 from Amazon and (since I’m cheap and opted for the no postage charge route) won’t be getting it in the mail until the second week of Sept…can you believe? I’m dying! And swimming makes me cold too.

Not to mention the incongruity in Premonition. . .did you notice on the first day (Thursday) that her daughter didn’t have any cuts, but later we find out that she got the scars on Tuesday or Wednesday (can’t remember which). It was a pretty bad mistake. I thought the movie was okay, weird ending. Didn’t watch the alternate, probably should have!

My hubby and I usually watch a whole season of 24 in three days. I almost always have dreams where I am doing incredibly violent and bloody things during those days.

Matt and I found each other saying, “Yeah” just like Tony does every time he picks up the phone or speaks to someone. (You know, that kind of gravelly, short Yeah.) Oh, and we used to do that weird whisper/yell that Jack Bauer does too. That show really just sucks you in and won’t let go!

I completely agree on what you said about “Premonition”, I love Sandra Bullock, but I did not love that movie. At all.

And my boyfriend is addicted to 24, I have resisted temptation so far. 🙂

We’ve watched season 1 of 24 but not the others yet, because it seems once you start you are in a race to see them all. Jack Bauer showed up in a movie I saw this week, The Sentinel. I don’t mean that literally. I wanted to see Premonition when I saw it advertised recently. It seemed like a good idea. Now, I’m not so sure.
